We're halfway through the 2026 youth season, and we've had the chance to be in the blind for two successful hunts already!

Passing along hunting traditions is about more than just teaching someone how to hunt. It’s about showing the next generation what it means to hunt safely, responsibly and ethically.

Hunting is conservation, both through how we manage wildlife and the funding it provides. Keeping these traditions alive helps ensure future generations can enjoy healthy wildlife populations, public lands and the outdoor opportunities we value today.

Good luck to everyone hitting the field this season!

Last night we saw this buck get visibly frustrated at the scent of another deer along "his" scrape line... A welcome sight for us hunters!

Leaves are changing, hormones are rising... If you haven't already, it's time to hit the woods!

Youth-Only Firearm Season opens this weekend! (Oct. 10–18, 2026)

In North America, hunting is conservation. It’s a primary source of funding for wildlife restoration, habitat work, public access, and so much more. Hunters also play an important role in managing wildlife resources—helping maintain healthy populations and collecting information that contributes to wildlife conservation into the future.

Quite simply, responsible hunters play an important role in sustaining the amazing fish and wildlife resources we enjoy today.

That’s what makes Youth-Only Season not only special, but important. It’s a great opportunity to get outdoors, make memories, fill the freezer, and teach important skills. It’s also a time when many new hunters are introduced to the outdoors—and an important part of passing along a conservation tradition to the next generation.

So get out there, introduce someone new to the outdoors, have fun, and make some memories!

And thank you for supporting conservation and the wildlife species we all love!

A new episode of the Kentucky Afield Podcast is out!

Join us as we discuss a new Kentucky-based organization, Boone Brothers, with founder Jon Weece. We learn why the organization was created and how it’s utilizing hunters and venison to help address a number of issues facing the state.

Also… if you have the opportunity to take an additional doe and donate it, DO IT! 🦌
