Another WIP in the lounge studio… For eyes sometimes our tūpuna cut and drilled the pāua and inlaid it into the carved out space… Other times they cut a piece of pāua out, put it in the carved out space and nailed straight through the pāua… They also nailed some dowel over the pāua to make it look as though the “pupil” went through - clever! Our tūpuna explored different ways to do the same thing… Because they were explorers and innovators… Our oldest and most vital tradition - is the tradition of innovation… #toimāori #mahitoi #whakapī #traditionofinnovation #art collector by @kereamataepa
