143 miles into Cocodona and my race ended in a DNF.

I’m heartbroken. 💔 There’s really no way around that.

I trained hard for this. I wanted this badly. And when you pour this much of yourself into something, it hurts when your body can’t carry you all the way to the finish line. My body was done before my mind was ready to let go. And now that it’s over, my mind is still trying to catch up to what happened out there.

But I also know this: Most people will never understand what it takes just to step up to the start line of something like Cocodona. The training. The fear. The sacrifice. The months of showing up when nobody is watching.

Soon I’ll believe I didn’t fail because I DNF’d. I’ll focus on the fact that I went 143 miles farther than the version of me who used to quit on herself long before things got hard… and farther than I’ve ever run before.

It just may take me a little while to get there.

I’m incredibly grateful for my crew, my pacers, and every person who believed in me enough to follow along and cheer me on.

Right now I’m disappointed, exhausted, emotional, and honestly still processing it all.

But I know this isn’t the end of my story. I’ll heal. I’ll learn from it. And eventually…I’ll step back up to another start line.

That’s what we do.

Four years.

I don’t negotiate with alcohol anymore.
It doesn’t own me. It doesn’t control me. It doesn’t steal my mornings or take up space in my mind.

This morning I read an email from someone awake at 3 a.m., drinking just to fall asleep.
I know that hour. I know the quiet sound of a bottle being opened.
I know the 6 a.m. drink to steady shaking hands.

That used to be my life.

March 3, 2022, I packed my bags for rehab.
Scared. Ashamed. Not sure who I was — only sure I couldn’t keep going like that.

Ninety days later, I walked out different.
And I kept walking.

Life isn’t easier now — it’s honest.
Hard days. Good days. Real days.
And I face them fully awake.

Four years since my last drink.

The woman who needed alcohol to survive is gone.
The woman walking toward you now stays.

I freaking love trees. 🌳

The bigger and older they are, the more completely fascinated I am by them. There’s just something about standing next to something that has been here so much longer than I have…and will probably still be here long after I’m gone.

I always wonder what they’ve seen. How old they are. What was happening in the world when they were just little baby trees. 😂

This one in Sicily stopped me in my tracks. I mean…LOOK AT IT. 😍
