One of the wildest parts of sobriety is realizing the “new you” isn’t actually new at all.

It’s the real you.
The one who’s been there all along.
Sobriety doesn’t give you a different identity.

It helps you reconnect with the one you lost track of.

Front row seat to grit, courage, and relentless forward motion at the @cocodona250 by my girl @kerri_2.0 🔥🔥 The human spirit is a wild thing to witness. Such an honor to pace her for 21 miles of this race. Who knows, maybe she inspired me to race it next year? ✨

P.S. Arizona is BEAUTIFUL

Last weekend was a dream come true.

Years ago, I went to an in-person event that changed my life.

In fact, that event was the first day I started my journey of sobriety from stimulants and alcohol.

And ever since that event, I’ve been changed for the better.

Fast forward to last weekend: where our goal of putting on Desert Peak Ultra was to create an incredible experience for our runners, so that they can walk away with memories that remind them of the enduring person they really are.

And the result?

Emotional moments at the finish line, pure grit shown climbing up the steep Mt Lemmon, strong finishes that showed human resiliency at its finest, and people getting to meet others who are chasing the fullness of human potential, just like them.

And from that? We hope we created that same massively positive weekend that changed my life many years ago.

Because to me, ultras are more than just races. They are core memories that remind us of who we are. They’re places where we realize there are others like us. And they are trials that make us stronger, for life.

That’s why even though last weekend, putting on this race, was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done, it was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

And I hope the runners can say the same thing.

I can’t wait to keep putting this race on for years to come, and to make it better and better.

Huge and massive thank you to every runner, every volunteer, our Race Director Shelby, our content manager Christian, the Everyday Ultra team, our sponsors, Hay Creek Ranch, my wife, and everyone who made this event possible. It takes a big team, and I’m so grateful for you all for making this possible.

Desert Peak 2027 registration is opening soon. The classic 100K and 50K courses. And a new race added to the weekend.

Will we see you there next year?
