Always keep the bar guessing.

False grip makes muscle-ups easier by letting you pull straight into the transition without adjusting your grip mid-movement. If you can do bodyweight pull-ups with a false grip, it’s time to start thinking about training a muscle up!

Key exercises to build false grip strength (from easiest to hardest):
1. Fist openers
2. Assisted negatives
3. Assisted hangs
4. Lat engages
5. False grip pull-up negatives
6. Banded false grip pull-ups

Aim for 5–8 reps of banded false grip pull-ups with a thin band before progressing to unassisted reps.

👉 If you haven’t already, check out my false grip tutorial video, where I break down exactly how to take a false grip on the bar.

Muscle up side quests

Training for one-arm handstand has reminded me what I enjoy most about learning a skill. It feels like learning all over again - lots of mistakes, interrupted by the occasional breakthrough. Frustrating, satisfying and addictive.
