Sometimes I can write nice things :)
Dark fantasy ❤️‍🔥🫀🪷♟️🌙🌌⚔️
ARC reader 🙇‍♀️📖
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Howdy 🤠

I’ve been away for a while, life has happened yet again😅

Between moving across the world and preparing for a pretty big surgery (it’s tomorrow🫪), time has lost its meaning.

But! I am back in the same vicinity of my books. It will be a month or two before I can post my usual cinematic book reviews. (I have to move to an apartment at some point😵‍💫) but when I can I will!

As for writing, I’m taking it pretty slow. Still in the middle of book 2. And of course, depending on what happens, then book 1 will need to be edited accordingly.

I won’t be able to use my right arm for a while so writing will be challenging. However, I am a bit scared that I’m going to go insane. I still have my left hand so I would love to talk about anything book related, so don’t be a stranger!

Finally, this is my current read. I’m only about 100 pages in. Have you heard of it? Read it? If you haven’t, what are you reading now? Or what scene are you writing now?

As always,
More to come <3

The Wolf and his King 🐺 ⚔️ 👑
By Finn Longman

Notes:
* GOOD LORD THE YEARNING.
* Great, now that I got that out of the way, I had such a fantastic time with this book. I have some thoughts, and they aren’t really spoilers, but if you are going to read this book, I highly recommend going into it without knowing anything. This book is so good it deserves an unbiased approach. I virtually knew nothing about it, only that it was there was a romance between a king and his knight. I was sold. But holy hell did it obliterate my expectations.
* The Wolf and his King is a retelling of a 12th century French poem and Longman’s writing does not let you forget it.

Pros:
* Oh, so much pining and longing.
* Consistent prose.
* A stand alone done so so so well.
* And it feels like a fresh read.

Mids:
* One of the main characters is a werewolf. If that’s not your thing, I get it.

Cons:
* … it wasn’t long enough. I would have been more than happy if their story was stretched into a duology.

I’ll post my in depth thoughts in the comments because there is A LOT :)

Special thanks to @books_cats_japan for letting me raid your library <3

The Stars are Dead ✨👁️🌑
By Aarohi Kashikar ( @aarohi_kashikar_writes )
ARC Review

The events in The Stars are Dead have done quite the number to Ashton Brooke. Poor guy goes through it. He meets Faye who is also just trying to lick the wounds life has unleashed upon her. They play several games of cat and mouse while Ashton investigates the enigma of his past. This book is a YA through and through with young love, hesitations, and deadly mysteries all taking place during their last year of high school.

I was barely five pages in and there were already so many sentences that I fell in love with. Kashikar did a wonderful job with not going overboard with prose. Her writing was direct, but also made you pause for thought in the appropriate places. It has been A WHILE since I’ve read a book in a real world modern setting. I always cringed at the descriptions, but Kashikar’s way of writing has restored my faith that it can be done well. I also really appreciated how the introductions of characters were not overwhelming in the slightest.

My main point of conflict was that I really wanted to see more fantasy elements, BUT!!! That being said, The Stars are Dead is clearly setting the reader up for such things in future books.

With a couple minimal tweaks, I could see how The Stars are Dead would be extremely popular in the YA realm. I can imagine it as a “New arrival!” across local and school libraries. I would have absolutely DEVOURED this when I was in high school. All in all it was a great read and helped me connect with my high school self :’)

Thank you so much for inviting me into your world! :) @aarohi_kashikar_writes by @kespe.writes

Legendary 🎟️🎭🫀
By Stephanie Garber

Pros:
* Snarky dialogue! Interesting lore with the deck of cards and Fates.

Mids:
* YA romantasy through and through. If you love that, you’ll eat it up.

Cons:
* FMC internal logic is simply not there. Almost all, if not all of her struggles were solved by others and not herself :/
* Rules of the world are not defined and that is clearly taken advantage of.

Other notes:
* I wish we were able to explore other characters internal logic further. The book really focuses on Donatella and Donatella only. Sure we get a glimpse of Dante, Scarlett, and Julian, but I need more depth from them.
* I LOVE Jacks as a character. I need more from him and his story. (Which I believe actually exists!) There is so so so much potential with his story.
* The plot twist wasn’t really a twist, I saw it coming from a mile away. Which to be fair, could have been intentional. But it didn’t land well for me.
* Also, what does ink/secrets/something seductive/ink again/and wicked magic smell like?

All in all:
* I need to remind myself that it is in fact a YA Romantasy. But even with that in mind, I feel like Tella could have been more independent.
* I am curious about the direction FINALE will go in.
* Others may have different opinions, but I’m actually more interested in Jacks, than Tella and Dante at this point 😅

Always thrilled to light a new woodwick 🕯️ Crackling candles are a MUST for me when editing/writing. Oh yes, and ambient YouTube playlists. Current obsession is, “I love you, but you aren’t mine..” by @ pianza

What are your must haves for writing or reading? 📖 🖋️

Daughter of crows 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛

Pros:
* older protagonist 👵 (a pissed off grandma) interesting perspective on trauma and memory if you can spot it.

Mids:
* VERY prosy ✨ Depends if you like that or not. Personally, I found myself a little lost sometimes, but there were times it was nice.
* No romance💔 (I knew that going into it, so if you’re going to read it just be aware)

Cons:
* One of the first antagonists is described as a larger body type (I thought we were over this villainization🫩).

Other notes (SPOILERS 🚨🚨🚨):
* Didn’t really know the limits and rules of the magic system, which to be fair, could be explained more in future books, but it would have been nice to know in this book.
* Surprise cannibalism was a choice.
* I hope we get to actually meet the goddesses/furies in the future.
* Would have liked to know Mother and Father’s backstory. Who are they? Why are they the way they are? (Again, this could be addressed in the next book, so I’ll be patiently waiting)
* I did like how the different perspectives made you keep guessing who really was the main character (Although I did guess pretty quickly after the first girl died)

All in all:
* I will probably read the second when it comes out.
* Probably not for you if you’re if you have a low tolerance for violence/death.

For the life of me I can’t stop using these words 🫥 I say that I’m putting them in time out in the scary cave, but I know they’ll show up 20 times the next time I write anyway 😵‍💫 “Across the river” is a special one. In my first draft of my first book I somehow used it probably 10 times in the first three pages 💀

What are your crutch words? Bonus points if it’s unique haha

Hello hello 👋 as many of you may or may not have noticed, I’ve been absent for a couple weeks. Nothing bad happened!! I was just simply living life. I took a long ass flight to see my family (the total travel time was about 32 hours 💀) and to see BTS in El Paso, Texas. (If any of you are fans pls lmk 💜)

But!! In the meantime I have been writing my second book. Good news, I think I have a working title for book two! Bad news, I am/was in a bit of a slump. I met with one of my alpha readers today @books_cats_japan and talked through those problems. It was extremely enlightening. Especially now, I don’t have many people who read my writing, so to have the feedback was immensely helpful.

I hope you’ve all been well! 🥹🥲💛

More to come,

Hot take! I don’t count words or chapters I’ve written in a month. I feel like if I start to, then I’ll have to do better and better until I have reach unobtainable goal. So I don’t count or force my writing ✍️

Do you count your words you’ve written in a month? Why or why not?
