but the one thing im taking with me is that shifting how i see something can actually shift how i feel. in the hard stretches, that’s everything 🤍

follow along for the in between of ambition and new motherhood, where we unlearn and grow together 🤍

The word of the day is “anosmic” 👩🏽‍🏫✨

On today’s episode of Fragrance Decoded, our founder @keta.bw chats about nose blindness (the reason why you stop smelling your perfume after 10 minutes) 🍏🫧

if you’re the responsible one, the rule follower, the eldest child, or the recovering people pleaser, I have a feeling you understand why this whole thing struck a nerve. 😅

there’s a particular kind of frustration that comes from spending your life trying to do the right thing, only to be made out to be the difficult one when you advocate for yourself

and maybeeee that’s the uncomfortable part. some of us have spent so long believing that being reasonable, responsible, and doing everything “right” would protect us from being misunderstood, but it doesn’t

tbc, not saying Kelly Clarkson handled everything perfectly, but i certainly recognize the feeling.

curious if anyone else saw themselves in this whole debate, or if I’m just projecting my own eldest-child baggage onto a $15,000 bird😂 taken in New York, New York by @keta.bw

I was really scared to share this, because I haven’t told many people, but it’s such a weight off my shoulders to share more of my story.

When I was lonely, I thought the answer was finding someone.

Then I got hurt badly enough that I swung all the way in the other direction.
I kept myself busy. Filled my calendar. Partied. Told myself I didn’t need anyone anyway.

That wasn’t freedom either.

Eventually I landed somewhere in the middle.

I learned how to spend time with myself without treating being alone like a failure. I started figuring out what I actually liked, what I wanted to learn, and what kind of life I wanted to build.
And that changed the kind of relationship I was able to have.

I didn’t need my husband to complete a life I hadn’t built yet.
I had already started building one.

He just expanded it with me.

How many little moments of joy are you missing because you’re waiting for the right time?

We’ve lived in our building for almost six years, and there’s a little outdoor space out back that we’ve barely used.

Not because we didn’t want to, but because I always thought we’d go another day. Maybe when we had more time, or when we could make a proper afternoon of it.

And of course, that day never came.

recently, I’ve realized that some of the best moments don’t require a plan at all.

Sometimes you just need to put on some shoes, step outside, and enjoy what’s already right in front of you.

A little reminder that you don’t have to make a big occasion out of everything to make it special. ❤️

Hot take: Your idea does not need to be completely new to be worth building.
Most founders get stuck trying to invent something no one has ever seen before, when the real opportunity is usually in seeing something familiar differently.
A sharper customer.
A different tension.
A stronger point of view.
A better way to explain why it matters.
That is where differentiation starts.

You’ve gotten so used to being the capable one that struggle has started to feel like part of your identity.

You’re building something. You’re showing up for your family. You still have goals for yourself. You’re trying to be present, ambitious, grateful, successful, all at once.

So when everything feels hard, you assume that’s just what this season is supposed to feel like.

Being an entrepreneur is hard.
Being a mom is hard.
Being yourself is hard.

But sometimes the story you repeat becomes the only version of the story you can see.

What if building something can be hard and empowering?

What if motherhood can stretch you and ground you?

What if becoming more yourself can feel uncomfortable and freeing?

The hard part can be true without being the whole truth.

Maybe you don’t need to want less, become less ambitious, or pretend everything is easy.

Maybe you just need to stop defining your life by the part of it that feels heaviest.

You can be tired and fulfilled.
You can be stretched and grateful.
You can be changing and still be becoming more yourself.

Two things can be true at once.

And sometimes that reframe changes everything.

We spend so much of life waiting for the moments that feel big enough to count.

The trip. The promotion. The milestone. The celebration. The version of life where everything finally feels settled.

I’m trying to get better at noticing what’s happening in between.

The @blundstone boots I throw on every day. My usual coffee from @yanniscoffee or walking the same streets. A song on repeat. Sitting next to someone I love on an otherwise ordinary day.

I don’t think romanticizing your life means pretending everything is perfect.

For me, it’s remembering that the ordinary parts are worth noticing too.

Because one day, some of the moments we barely think twice about might be the ones we miss most 🙂‍↕️ taken in New York, New York by @keta.bw

Your brand might not need more effort 👀

If you’re an early stage beauty or consumer founder and the work feels heavy but the progress feels tiny, this is probably the video you need.

I’m breaking down the 5 things I would never do if I had to build my brand from scratch.

They’re moves that keep founders stuck, stretched thin, and unclear on what actually moves growth.

If you want help spotting what’s keeping you stuck, that’s exactly what my free founder clarity audit is for.

so whose joining the scheme??

love my son more than anything, but parenting has absolutely made me understand why parents are always trying to get their friends to have kids 😂
parenting can be weirdly isolating, and there is something so comforting about having people around you who just get it.
The nap math. The early dinners. The fact that you can adore your child and still be counting down to bedtime.
So yes, when a friend tells me she’s pregnant, I’m thrilled for her.
But I’m also like… welcome to the pyramid scheme 🤝

We have been conditioned to believe that traditional luxury fragrances, inspired by the fleeting moments of the elite clique of old-world master perfumers, captured everyone’s story. Notes of lavender in Provence, lily of the valley… just one side of the story.

I started Ourside because I believed scent is a language that everyone could understand, but few have the opportunity to speak. Ourside is our voice.

I’m not an industry insider or a renowned perfumer. I’m just someone passionate about sharing our stories through scent. Welcome to Ourside! by @keta.bw

One of my favorite compliments in high school was when someone asked if I was mixed. Looking back, that is wild to me 🤯

I grew up as a cross-cultural kid in a mostly white small town in Ohio with a Jamaican mom and a black American dad, and it shaped how I thought about beauty, belonging, and identity for a long time.

There are a lot of new faces here, so I wanted to share a little more about me. I’m a 33-year-old new mom in NYC, a late-diagnosed ADHD girl, former college athlete with some health tings, fragrance founder and corporate baddie, recovering overachiever, and very chatty introvert.

I talk a lot about ambition, identity, motherhood, building a business, career pivots, and figuring out what you actually want.

Glad you’re here 🤍
