Started with Men's Roundtable with some of my players and then a day filled with football --- Hornets vs Little Gryphons!

Little Gryphons won -_- so I couldn't talk much but its good to see the kids out there having fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Shout out to Nash County Parks & Rec and Nash County Public Schools for making this game an entire experience for players and fans, alike. by @kev_j_252

Saturday was one of those days…

✅ Domestic Violence Awareness 5K 🌞

✅ Grabbed a mum for Mom from United Way

✅ Breakfast at Chick-fil-A --- paid for a teacher’s breakfast and ran into my elementary school principal, Mr. Hardy

✅ Canvassed for the upcoming election --- and somehow ended up fixing somebody’s porch decor 😀

✅ Showed up for one of my players who lost his grandfather 🙏🏿

✅ Dollar Tree run for slime/squishy ingredients with my baby

✅ Celebrated with one of my former scholars on her wedding day ⛪️

✅ Zzzzzzzzzzz 😴

A lot of life packed into one Saturday.

Before one of my talks, I learned that a few student-athletes who were "too hurt" to practice had been seen playing pickup basketball. 🤔

That gave us something we needed to talk about.

The lesson was bigger than football: respect the opportunity, respect the people investing in you, and don’t make excuses that cheat your future.

Growing up in South Rocky Mount, I really thought I had to make it to the NFL to do something BIG for the community I came from.

Well, I didn't get anywhere close the the NFL 😂… but I still got the chance to come back and do some of the things I dreamed about as a kid --- like new computer labs for Williford and Princeville Elementary schools back in 2018.

You don’t have to be famous to make an impact. You just have to get in position --- and remember to reach back.

One message I shared with the young men at Fayetteville State’s 100 Men in Suits: Cherish the brotherhood you’re building right now.

Years from now, you may not remember every class or assignment, but you’ll remember the brothers who pushed you, encouraged you, and grew with you.

A Day in the Life.

✅ Gym before 6 AM.
✅ Back home to take my daughter to school.
✅ Pick up Candyman fundraiser packets (PTO duties).
✅ Head to Fayetteville State to support my former player & current FSU Mr. Sophomore, Quan, for his campus event.
✅ Pick up one of my current players, Eli, along the way so he can see what a day on a college campus is like.
✅ Sit through an entire college class for that #exposure (it was a senior-level course and we were both lost --- but we stayed awake 😆).
✅ Fried Chicken Wednesday (IYKYK)
✅ Cook Quad --- 100 Men in Suits.
✅ Pour into the young men, speaking about leadership & brotherhood.
✅ Get Quan a one-on-one with Justice Mike Morgan.
✅ Lock my car key in the trunk 🤦🏾‍♂️😂 (Shoutout to FSU Police for getting us back on the road.)
✅ Chick-fil-A on Murchison and back to Nash County.

One of the best parts of the day was watching a former player thrive in college while giving a current player an opportunity to see what could be ahead for him.

Mentorship. Exposure. Giving young people a chance to see what’s possible.

Long day. Good day. Grateful for all of it.

Everybody wants the opportunity. Everybody wants the outcome. But every yes to something comes with a no to something else.

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with the NC Wesleyan football team talking about the decisions, sacrifices and discipline that come with becoming who you say you want to be.

You can have almost anything. You just can’t have everything.

The Trei Oliver Prospect Camp at North Carolina Central University was another great opportunity for these young men to compete, learn, and continue developing.

Opportunities like these are about much more than football. They're about exposure. They're about stepping outside of what's familiar, competing against talented athletes from across the region, and seeing firsthand what it takes to play at the next level.

I'm grateful for every opportunity to help expose student-athletes to experiences beyond what they see every day. Whether football becomes their destination or simply the vehicle that carries them there, the lessons learned through competition, discipline, preparation, and perseverance will serve them for the rest of their lives.
