Still not over my graduation 🥹 I’m so thankful for all the support I had on this day.

Transparency: I started hair school in January feeling so alone. I had just spent the holidays alone (by choice), I was depressed and kept myself in the house. When I started school I was happy though. I had just got out the military and I lost a lot of things all at once. I felt like I had no control of anything around me.

In all actuality God was making ROOM.

God had made room for ALL OF THIS LOVE. All of this genuine care, all of this happiness. I learned from this to never question His plan again.

I used to pray and cry for a village. A solid “couple” of people to make me feel like I’m not alone. And then I stepped into Paul Mitchell and gained a huge family.

I can’t thank everyone at @pmtssandiego enough. The staff, the students all helped me thru in ways I’ll never be able to express.

Maybe I’ll be back one day (@ PM hiring squad) 😉

Dear 18 Year Old Kevi,

At just 18 you cut all your hair off for the first time. A “big chop”. You were getting relaxers since 13 because it made your hair more “manageable”. Which is ironic because you spend the next 10 years putting together a plan where you don’t have to be managed. You’ll manage yourself someday. You’ll go from doing hair in your bathroom and living room for free to being a US Navy Sailor, doing hair in the barbershop until after taps. You’ll then become a US Navy Vet and make the ultimate leap to chase your dreams instead of staying in. You’ll get out and go to Paul Mitchell the School San Diego. You’ll be scared at first because you spent almost 7 years in a secure and autopilot environment, to free will and being your own boss. You’ll perfect caring for your natural hair to finding out you’re obsessed with all natural hair. Braids, locs, twist, trims, treatments. And you’ll finally go from doing hair in your living room, in your bathroom, in the kitchen, in the ship barbershop, in school, to YOUR OWN SPACE IN A SHOP. You did it girl. And there’s still SO MUCH MORE to accomplish. But we celebrate wins now, which is dope cuz we were never really good at that in the Navy. But yeah girl, 10 years later and you can breathe again. I’m proud of you boo. It gets better, I promise. I love you 💋✨
