Life has taught me that "love" is something of a commodity. It's bought, sold & traded like stocks. It's upgraded like a car. It's disgarded like old clothes. It waxes & wanes like the moon. It's turned on/off like a faucet out of convenience. This is my honest & personal experience w/ love. It wasn't until Rambo's entry into my life (& his passing 2yrs ago today) that I started to question if I've ever actually been in love. IDK. And the reason IDK is because I felt something for Rambo I've never felt for people (before or since). I had a willingness to go miles for him I haven't had for others. I made sacrifices for him, no questions asked, others couldn't get out of me. He softened my harder edges, introduced me to compassion, showed me what unconditional love feels like. I have a continuous deep sense of loss & a void in my soul I don't have for others I've parted ways with. Therefore, I can only rectify this "love" as the deepest & truest love I've personally experienced (& still do.) Am I broken? Possibly. Does it defy human logic? Possibly. But it's profoundly real & one of the most powerful, best lasting experiences of my life. Attributing this level of life impact & love to Rambo is probably the highest honor I can give him. He gave "love" the most real meaning to me. If I'm fortunate enough to feel it again, I'll embrace it. If not, I feel blessed to have been so profoundly changed & affected by a tiny 13# fiesty #Yorkie who made me smile & LOL every day. And that will be w/ me for life. RIP bud. Not a day goes by where I don't think of you fondly & miss you terribly. 🌈 💔 ❤️ 🐕

While I was @spartanrace in Portugal last month, it was the anniversary of an accident that nearly ended my life & for which I was told, "you'll never race again." Yeah....okay.

Despite the doom & gloom prognosis, I was given the gift of a 2nd chance. The gift of perspective. The gift of spirituality. The gift of survival. The gift of healing, perseverance, will-power. It was the realization that you're your own best adbocate & coming back rested entirely on my shoulders. It's equal parts the best thing that ever happened to me & the worst thing that ever happened to me.

I know every day is a gift & none are promised. I don't get mired down by societal BS, drama, politics, endless outrage. No pitty parties. I believe every day is an opportunity. I don't waste my energy, focus, days or life. I'm acutely aware of how quickly things can change - before you even know it happened. So I take nothing for granted. I prioritize my lifestyle above all else.

These are my favorite non-racing weekends. A BIG run followed up by a BIG ride (or vice versa). This is a typical setup, but some weekends are standouts. This is one of those. The vid shows the totals, but here's the daily breakdown.

Saturday (long run):
3 peaks
4 hours
2:40 of just climbing
8.6 miles
4,307 ft of vertical gain
13,650 max altitude

Sunday (long ride):
1 peak
3:53 time
3:00 of just climbing
44.2 miles
5,152 ft of vertical gain
10,450 max altitude by @kevingillotti

Official photos from the @spartanswitzerland 🇨🇭 Verbier day 2 Super distance race. I felt a bit snappier on Sunday (maybe because it was far less vertical gain & distance than the day before 😎) as I had an extra gear. Unfortunately, I still missed the podium by 1 spot. Nice job @antopagx for a new obstacle combo we've never had before: bucket → spear → bucket → rope climb → bucket. That's a tough combo. Especially at the end of the race when you can start to feel the finish line as you're back down in town. I've said publicly for years there's not enough obstacle combos in our sport & it's an absolute 'duh' no-brainer. He & I talked at length about it a couple of days before. But I had no idea that was coming. by @kevingillotti

Official photos from the @spartanswitzerland Verbier national series race. This was my 5th national series race in my 3rd country in '26 (🇫🇷🇮🇹🇨🇭). And I hit the main goal I wanted which was - like in Morzine 🇫🇷 & Belluno 🇮🇹 - being American 🇺🇸 & standing on the podium in a EU series race & in my preferred distance. I've hit the podium in every single day 1 beast distance race this year: 5 of 5. And, the 1st photo in this carousel says it all. by @kevingillotti

Final race 4 of my July 2 week Euro race trip: 🇫🇷Morzine Super. What I didn't make public, only people around me knew, was that the day before in the Beast I pulled my calve muscle & was limping all night unsure I would even be able to race this last race. I iced, compression, elevation, recovery boots, ibuprofen to do all I could to try to mend it enough to race on it. This was a French National Series race & I needed it to get ranked in their series as an 🇺🇸 but knowing it will kill my high P chances. Well, I pulled it off & in doing so, had my 4th out of 4 100% clean no obstacle fail races of the trip. My limiting factor was speed. Mentally I was strong, physically I was strong, I just couldn't put the power to the left calve that I needed to run as fast as I needed to have a great result & get a higher P on the series rankings. But I did what I set out to do. And follow through is extremely important to me. So I'll be ranked 👍

Next up? @spartanswitzerland 🇨🇭 & another big mountain race weekend in Verbier.

Race 3 official photos of my 2 week, 4 race Europe trip, was the @spartanracefrance 🇫🇷 Morzine Beast. This race was my cornerstone of the entire trip. And I had a 3rd in a row 100% perfect obstacle execution race (0 penalties). It's well known Morzine is a tough mountain course. Many long, hard & heavy carries (eg, around the pond log → barbwire → pond swim → finish carry or that brutal bucket & sandbag, a 2nd log carry, technical chain carry, creek atlas stone). And of course, the 2 serious death march type huge vert mtn climbs (6,715ft total) + technical descending. The in town racing was so awesome with 1000s of spectators. Such a great morale & vibe booster. I raced perfectly; surges, gears, pacing, strong climbing, good knit not great) descending, dialed in nutrition, & a fast final 2km of flatter high gear high speed running which all culminated in a 2nd place🥈podium. In France. On the 4th of July. On the 250th year celebration of 🇺🇸 independence. I couldn't have asked for anything better than this. And... It was the goal.

Ps - 3rd slide is my @ecoaims laser pistol results

Official photos from race 2 of this 2 week, 4 race Europe trip, was the new @spartanraceitaly 🇮🇹 Belluno-Névegal Super. I had a perfect 100% obstacle execution race (0 penalties) as with the Beast the day before 👍 It's a tough course outside of the oppressive heat wave the EU was having. Podium the day before, but just off the podium in this race. But I raced strong & well, I just wasn't fast enough.

Official photos from race 1 of my 2 week 4 race Europe trip was the new @spartanraceitaly 🇮🇹 Belluno-Névegal Beast. I had a strong race as previously mentioned in my podium (3rd) Reel post. Tough tough Beast (4.5hrs tough) that started instantly uphill on a beautiful mixed terrain course (Orte, Gubbio, Verbier, West Virginia, Morzine all on 1 course). But I had snappy legs, climbed great, descended well & earned my priority goal of 100% obstacle completion. I mean, obstacles... that's why we're here, no?

40 miles, 137,500 steps & 25 cumulative hours walking around the historical granite, concrete, cobblestone roads of Rome, Orte & racing a 14mi 3hr beast all in the 5 previous days before this Sunday Orte super... But yet I felt su-perb on the day two race! The legs were hella sore & stiff after the beast & the morning downhill mile walk to the race start, but as is typical, the moment that gun goes off... all DOMs instantly ends, race instinct takes over, discomfort is pushed aside. Everything I reported feeling Saturday in the beast, I felt Sunday in the super! The body is more resilient than people give it credit for. Especially when you've spent decades building up a tolerance to self inflicted abuse 😎
