Giving life to an older but meaningful tattoo. 🌸

Yuko asked me to rework an older Kanji tattoo. The black needed some touch-ups, and she wanted to turn it into part of a larger piece.

We discussed the design during a consultation, and I suggested adding an organic element, such as clouds or flowers, to bring the overall design to life. We decided on these beautiful pink peonies. 🌸

I love how adding something new can give an older tattoo a whole new feeling.

SWIPE for the before and process.

Tattooing your partner can be extra challenging. Just like with any client, you want to give them the best possible outcome — but when it’s someone you love, the perfectionist in you definitely kicks in.

One thing I’ve learnt as a young tattooer is that perfection doesn’t really exist in tattooing. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, and sometimes you just have to trust yourself, do something cool, and let the tattoo be what it’s meant to be.

This was one of my first attempts at Japanese tattooing, almost a year ago, and I’m so pleased with how it turned out and watched it heal. Getting to practice a new style while tattooing my soon-to-be hubby feels pretty special.

Thank you @adriaanmalan for trusting me, giving me the opportunity to experiment, and letting me do my thing. 🖤 taken in Arnhem, Netherlands by @keysertattooer
