Tattooing your partner can be extra challenging. Just like with any client, you want to give them the best possible outcome — but when it’s someone you love, the perfectionist in you definitely kicks in.

One thing I’ve learnt as a young tattooer is that perfection doesn’t really exist in tattooing. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, and sometimes you just have to trust yourself, do something cool, and let the tattoo be what it’s meant to be.

This was one of my first attempts at Japanese tattooing, almost a year ago, and I’m so pleased with how it turned out and watched it heal. Getting to practice a new style while tattooing my soon-to-be hubby feels pretty special.

Thank you @adriaanmalan for trusting me, giving me the opportunity to experiment, and letting me do my thing. 🖤

From 31 July until 2 August i was on a mini vacation with my bestie Sandra @ongelukje — ❤️ — Tearfully leaving Miauwsy in my mothers care 😭🤣 we set off under heavy rain and 18 degrees and emerged from the car in Erichem in much better weather 🌞 there i had an AMAZING belated birthday present at @beertjeskleertjes 😍 and Sammi de Houthakker was born 🤩🤩 an amazing start of what was to be an amazing weekend visiting Armhem, Burgers’ Zoo and de Boekenmarkt in Deventer. We slept at this cozy, cottage-y, tiny house that was called ‘Pluk het Geluk’ that was set in the middle of nature (that we sadly hadn’t enough time or energy to explore).

With all the materials, photographs and written words, I came home and decided that the traveljournal i had initially created from an old little book wasn’t in any way sufficient, so i created a new traveljournal and as a cover I used the little suitcase we got with the stuffie!! 😍 It felt like fate because everything fits inside so nice.
I had a lot of fun creating this, almost interactive 😂, traveljournal with all the little bits and bops and tidbits that were collected.

A special thank you for @keysertattooer from @strafwerktattoo who tattooed my catghost design and was so kind to give tips on how to make the tattoo even better! 🙏🏼❤️ I absolutely love it!! 😍👻🐈‍⬛
