Lighting someone’s home is personal work.

It’s the place they unwind, host friends, and kick their feet up at the end of the day. So we light the architecture so it feels considered, and the rooms so they feel easy to live in.

The result is a house that looks considered and feels like home. We love helping people get there.

Premium fitness has become part hospitality, part wellbeing. The feeling of the space matters as much as the equipment.

At Equinox La Costa, warm light that slows you down when you arrive. Soft light where you feel most exposed. Every zone tuned to what you need from it.

In a store like this, nobody came to look at the shelving.

So the shelving disappears. It’s clear, and the light passes right through it. The walls and fixtures stay white and quiet. And the accent lighting is aimed tightly at the product, so the shoes are the most vivid, most focused things in the room.

The result is a store where your eye goes exactly where it should, every time, without anyone telling it to.

Nobody comes to the campus library for ten minutes.

Which means the light has to hold up for hour three, when attention is thinning and a harsh room would send you home.

Three things wear people down: glare, flat relentless brightness, and having no say in either. So the sources stay hidden, the light lands on surfaces rather than straight down, and there’s an adjustable lamp at each work station.

Comfort is an academic outcome.

The dining experience starts before you sit down.

A terrace glowing under the umbrellas. A dining room that drops warmer and quieter as you move into it. Nobody tells you to slow down. The room does it.

We are proud to have had a hand in shaping that experience for Hawksmoor Boston. Congratulations to @hawksmoorrestaurants on opening another beautiful location!

More light doesn’t always mean a better result. Sometimes it takes a careful angle to convey the idea.

This precast relief, by Jacques Overhoff, has wrapped the Mark Taper Forum since 1967. It’s all ridge and recess, which means you read it through shadow. Point a light straight at it and the shadows disappear, and all that texture flattens into a plain wall.

So, after the sun goes down, the light comes from below at a shallow angle instead. Every ridge casts its own shadow, and the effect holds from across the plaza.

This is true almost everywhere. Brick, stone, plaster, wood grain, fabric, any material with texture depends on the angle light strikes it. Move the source a few degrees and the material changes character entirely.

Baiyunting means cloud pavilion. That name sets an expectation for anyone who walks up to the building.

Daylight and a folded aluminum skin keep that promise for about half the day. The rest of the time, the light has to.

Sources behind the panels and carefully aimed sources at the surface, so the facade stays soft and weightless well after the sun is gone.

One room says slow down. The other says stay up.

Same property, opposite feelings, both built with light.

There is no fixture visible anywhere on this stair. The light washes the wall behind the treads, following the curve all the way down.

You cannot order that. It gets drawn, coordinated, and built by people who care about getting it right.

Proud of the partners who made this one happen.
