We would love to see you all with us on this day to celebrate Danny “D” Arriola - or as his Hawaiian family knew him as- Papa 💙 This man was more of a grandfather to me than my own blood grandfathers. Gave me life lessons that speak to my soul on a daily basis. And he always believed in me even when I didn’t know what I was capable of. Thank you Papa for always showing me style and grace even in the gnarliest moments. I wish I could see footage of you surfing in your prime. Just wanna say a big happy 24 to my oldest amazing son. My original spawn creation I’m so grateful for u n the Man U have become. U made me grow up n make sure I stayed on track because it made me realize that I had to make sure I took care of u n didn’t fall off the rails. U continue to amaze me more everyday n I appreciate your presence In the moments we share all the time. To say that I’m proud of u would b n understatement. I love u so much. Figured with all the Teahupoo gram craziness from yesterday I would post this shot from a wave I caught a quarter of a century ago this may. 25 years goes faster then u think n it’s crazy how much changes Teahupoo was a myth All u really knew was that sometimes there was a monster crazy wave at the end of the road. No surfers really lived there. The Parker family n Vetea n a few other families opened there houses n yards for us to camp in the beginning. U paddled out n nobody was there to save u n if u got your shot of the best wave you caught u were stoked to see it months later. Nowadays right as u catch the wave it’s going viral in 10 minutes all over the world 😆🤪 this plus swell cam’s forecast n everything else changed the game. I was lucky to surf kumbaya when nobody was around. Respect to all the Tahitians then n now for being the nicest most aloha people on the planet so grateful for all the amazing times n people I’ve met along the way Maruuru Roa n big aloha. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads that put in the time with their children. I honestly don’t know where I would be without them pretty much saved my life in the best way possible. It’s crazy n amazing stuff especially as u watch them grow n start to accomplish amazing things.
