Today, I think of Refaat Alareer, the Palestinian writer and poet, who was k*lled during this genocide. The famous author of the poem "If I Must Die". I wonder how he would have felt if he was alive today to get the news of the ceasefire. What poem would he have written? What words of comfort would he have shared? What books would he have written when his people began rebuilding their homes? We will never know. The occupation may have taken him from this world but his voice lives on in every reader reciting his words. He lives in our bookshelves and in our hearts. It is a bittersweet day as I watch the precious children of Palestine celebrating the ceasefire while my heavy heart remembers the beautiful martyrs we have lost. They live on in Jannah and we must remind the world of them and their stories. Today is a win but our work is not done. We must continue to advocate for a free Palestine. Thank you to @pulpbooksmtl for supporting Palestine and being a safe space.

On the morning of my Nikkah day, before I left my home to meet my Mr. Darcy, I stood before my bookshelf and picked up the stories that taught me to dream of a cozy love story of my own. Duas are answered in ways no author could ever write, except The One who holds the pen 🤲🏻 I grew up loving Jane Austen’s wallflowers.
The ones who lingered at the edge of the room, observing and feeling deeply. I felt like Mary Bennet, even when I was told I was Jane. Every quiet girl has already lived a thousand stories, just not out loud. They are simply waiting for their next chapter. It's strange to be the center of attention at your wedding, but when you’ve always dreamed of a life made of cozy moments and small circles, just like in Jane Austen's stories, it doesn’t feel like standing in the spotlight, only like being wrapped in the warmth of family. Alhamdulilah for it all ❤️

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡 Grateful to have received a copy of Phyllis's Orange Shirt. This story written by Phyllis Webstand follows a young girl who wore a new orange shirt to her first day at a residential school and how it was immediately stripped away from her. We wear orange on this day to honor and remember the children who lost their lives in residential schools and the ones who survived. This story, this shirt and this day is a reminder that every child matters. Today, I was happy have the opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture and be reminded of the ongoing journey towards reconciliation. by @khanlibrary

I'm not an artist, I'm just curious 🖌🎨 I'm curious about how watercolors flow on paper. How tiny dots of paint can become flowers and leaves. I'm curious about what a door can represent. How an image in my mind can be splashed on paper and become a prayer. I'm not an artist, I'm just curious. I'm curious about how I can expland my creativity beyond words on paper. How I can represent my love for my deen in different ways. I'm not an artist, so I'm not going to aim for perfection. I'm just going to soak up the peace I get with every stroke of the paint brush and the smiles I get when I give the finished painting to my loved ones 💕 by @khanlibrary

A glimpse of my creative pockets of time this week ❤️ Swipe and get a closer look at each project and all the joys and struggles that came with it 🥰

New hobby alert! Watercoloring is both fun and frustrating but I think I'm getting the hang of it. This was my first attempt but I'm feeling the itch to create my own design and use watercolors on it 👀🖌

Embroidery is my happy place! This is my favorite project, but these dots that represent tawaf are so hard to do. My perfectionist brain is driving me crazy over this, but I'm taking deep breaths and telling myself that art does not have to be perfect. Alhamdulilah for how it's turning out ❤️

I was scrolling on instagram and came across this design by @hannahhigginson_ with fruits and leaves. It's so cute and fun to do. I made one for my mom and now thinking of making my own cards for birthdays for family and friends.

Returning to my childhood hobby of coloring 🖍 These cozy coloring books bring me so much joy after a long workday or an early morning activity to get my brain started for the day. by @khanlibrary

Happy Release Day to Golden Flight by @skalibooks 🎉 The highly anticipated sequel to Fledgling exploring a story of resistance, courage, and the power of refusing to be silenced. S.K Ali reminds us that resistance can take many forms: the choices we make, the bonds we form, the narratives we shed and the courage to keep going in a world that tries to make us surrender to the oppressors. Congratulations @skalibooks ❤️ From warming our hearts with stories like Love from A to Z, to crying and raging from the injustice of Fledgling, your books have taken us on a journey filled with barakah, MashAllah. May your book take flight to the readers who need it and make a difference in how we stand up for justice on our Earth. Ameen. by @khanlibrary

"Men who start by burning books end by burning other men" - Yōko Ogawa 📖 This story is set on a small Japanese island where objects disappear both physically and from people's minds. The Memory Police watch over people as they burn or set it free the disappeared things. Birds, food, flowers, books...nothing is safe. A small group of people immune to forgetting the disappeared objects are taken away by the Memory Police. Silence and complicity lead to a decaying society where our main character feels parts of herself dying with each disappearance. This dystopian novel paints the picture of different kind of apocalypse where the oppression feels like a slow march to the eventual disappearance of humans and society as whole. I couldn't connect with the characters at all but the story itself kept me engaged and drawing comparisons to our world. Simple acts of resistance like holding onto disappeared objects or hiding the people who remember gave the story meaning. While the ending left me wanting more and needing answers, I realized it's a bit refreshing to not have all the information and answers spoon fed to us in a world filled with shortcuts. I enjoyed how different it was from all the other dystopian fictions. There is something intriguing and eerie about the slowness of it all. Overall, a solid 4/5 ✨️ by @khanlibrary

Make your life so cozy that you'll be filled with endless gratitude for the soft moments. There is something so special about finding a few minutes in your busy day to decompress and grow in little ways. Think of yourself as a gardener when you pick up a hobby instead of reaching for your phone. You are planting seeds in your garden. What cozy hobby are you enjoying these days? by @khanlibrary

I love everything cozy, and this Korean novel is exactly what I need when my heart yearns for quiet and slow moments. The thing about cozy reads is that they require patience and time, something that seems to be slipping from our fingers in today's fast-paced and overstimulating society. These days, loud, fast and flashy seems to be an effective way to grab attention and to hold it for all of five minutes. Slow books with no huge plot twist can lead many people to feel bored. I find myself thriving in this space of boredom. A cup of karak chai and a story about a woman fighting for her community and a man who has lost everything, feels like a perfect way to fight brainrot. This book/genre may be overhyped and not everyone's cup of tea, but for me it's a way to unwind and find the lessons in a slow story that quietly exists, much like I do amid the chaos of life. by @khanlibrary
