Tervetuloa kirjan julkaisujuhliin perjantaina 16.10.2026 klo 17–19!

Kati Rapia & Ilona Valkonen: Drifting / Drafting – Notes on the State of the World

Rapia ja Valkonen kiersivät vuosina 2020–2026 neljätoista kaupunkia ja kylää Itämeren rannoilla kahdeksassa maassa.
Paikalliset nuoret keräsivät lähirantansa roskat, muotoilivat niistä asuja ja heidät kuvattiin luomukset yllään.
Syntyi dokumentaaris-poeettinen muotokuva Itämeren nykytilasta.
Tuhon julistamisen sijaan teos etsii toivoa ja toimijuutta.

Kirja sisältää 90 valokuvaa sekä tekijöiden haastattelun.
Teokseen liittyvä näyttely avaa WAM nykytaiteen museon uuden WAMX-tilan Turussa 31.10.2026. @wamturku

Julkaistaan 30.10.: Sakari Piipon ȺӀҟմąìղҽ @sakaripiippo

— Sakari Piippo

New book coming out in October ࿐ ࿔:・゚

Phytopia by Maija Annikki Savolainen @maija_annikki now available for pre-order in Khaos’ webshop. Exhibition opens to the public at Rauma Art Museum on October 24th, publishing event in Puistokatu 4, Helsinki, November 12th. Welcome! ⋆.ೃ࿔:・
@raumaartmuseum @puistokatu4

Since 2013, Savolainen has been photographing the changing ecological state of the Archipelago Sea through sailing culture. Phytopia asks what it means to move through a changed landscape, and what new ways of being together might emerge from a changing sea.

Cyanobacteria are among the oldest organisms on Earth and an essential part of the marine food web. In the book’s images, the bodies and postures of the sailors echo the filaments, chains and colonies formed by blue-green algae. Hands gripping ropes, boats, wind and water form a constantly shifting whole, where the boundaries between humans and other forms of life begin to blur.

Book design by the wonderful Päivi Helander @paivi_helander_, who has worked with the artist and this project in the SEAS Collective @seas_kollektiivi

The photographs were made in collaboration with girl sea scouts, sailing communities and the Kanssakulkijat project. The artist thanks all the sailors in the photos, especially @turuntahtitytot

MAYA MARTINEZ describes how JAAKKO PALLASVUO’s scripts for performance “act as architecture, as guided meditations, as the flow of the id.” For issue 007 of @thewhitneyreview Martinez reviews MOUTHING THE WORDS: TEXTS FOR PERFORMANCE 2019–2025 tracing how
Pallasvuo is “witty, self-conscious, and entertaining, concerned with newness, fear, chance, and time passing.” by @khaospublishing

Teimme vaihtoehtoisen kannen @ella.venlamaria ja @eliaslahtinen hienolle teokselle Men with No Mountains 🩵 Härmäläisyys ja pohjalaisuus näyttäytyvät kulttuurissamme jokseenkin maskuliinisina ja vanhanaikaisinakin käsitteinä. Pastellisen sumuisella kannella haluamme tuoda esiin asioiden toisen laidan, pehmeyden karskin ulkokuoren takana.

Ote teoksesta:
“Lakeuksilla näkee kauas ja tulee itse nähdyksi helposti: se on näyttämö, jolle härmäläinen asettuu esille. Kaikki on nähtävillä: pellot, pihat, talot ja ihmiset, etenkin muukalaiset valokuvaajat. Tyhjyys ympärillä kysyy: kuka sinä olet ja mitä tuot tähän kuvaan? Lakeus pakottaa suojautumaan tai kasvamaan.”

Ella Kiviniemen ja Elias Lahtisen Härmää ja härmäläisyyden myyttejä käsittelevä 160-sivuinen kirja 𝑴𝒆𝒏 𝔀𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑵𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔 sisältää 80 valokuvaa, sitaatteja paikallisilta ihmisiltä sekä tekijöiden dialogimuotoisen esseen. Teoksen rauhallisen toteavasta, kauniista graafisesta ilmeestä vastaa @pauliinanykanen 🩷

Mouthing The Words: texts for performance 2019–2025
by Jaakko Pallasvuo @avocado_ibuprofen

𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 consists of texts written to be performed. Sometimes this means a text written as the initial component to a theatrical production. Sometimes a text has been written to be spoken by someone without much other splendour. The words exist to be said, sung or put into action.

The texts collected in this book have been written for Amnesia Scanner, Teo Ala-Ruona and Maria Metsalu, among others. The words have been uttered in theaters, performance venues and contemporary art institutions in Berlin, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Tallinn, London, et cetera.

Collecting these texts in book form strips them of their original context while placing them in parallel with each other. A thread runs through them. A thread across time and space. Words are so thin they can resist all this entropy and erosion for a while. Why is there an inkling that all these texts might be one text? This book is, possibly, the slow emergence of three quarters of one idea. In an ideal scenario perceiving this idea taking shape is beautiful and thrilling.

One last publication for 2025 <3

Amoeba by Khaos founder Iina Esko @iinaesko

ɐqǝoɯ∀ describes the feeling of stagnation and being caught in a loop where things never truly change. This artist’s book by Iina Esko is based on analogue practice and consists of text and photographs. The photographs are taken on 120 mm film using Mamiya 67 and 645 cameras, and the book is hand-bound.

The work examines the experience of stasis and continuity, as well as recurring cycles of expectation and withdrawal, through the metaphor of the amoeba.
