MAYA MARTINEZ describes how JAAKKO PALLASVUO’s scripts for performance “act as architecture, as guided meditations, as the flow of the id.” For issue 007 of @thewhitneyreview Martinez reviews MOUTHING THE WORDS: TEXTS FOR PERFORMANCE 2019–2025 tracing how
Pallasvuo is “witty, self-conscious, and entertaining, concerned with newness, fear, chance, and time passing.”

❤️‍🔥 Thank YOU! ❤️‍🔥
(suomeksi kommenteissa)

Dodo's two-year Towards Action youth project came to an end at the turn of the year. This post brings together the events of the entire two-year project — in numbers and pictures!

More information is available on Dodo's website (link in bio!).

The Towards Action project focused on exploring activism and agency together with young people and activists, as well as enabling new types of activities by involving young people in planning and implementation. Cooperation between grassroots actors, activists, artists, and young people interested in activism was at the heart of the project. Activities and events were organized to explore four different themes: activism, art, direct action, and utopias.

A total of 23 events exploring these themes were organized in four different cities across Finland. The events included a total of 34 workshops focusing on the project's themes and addressing issues in different ways, organized by young people, activists, partner organizations, artists, and experts from various fields. The events reached a total of over 250 participants!

We would like to thank all those involved, the project's activists and volunteers, and every participant in the project. Without you, your help, your ideas, and your contributions, it would not have been possible to carry out the project on this scale!

📢✊ Civic engagement is more important than ever before, and we want to enable related activities in the future as well — we are grateful for all the feedback we have received throughout the project. All this feedback will also be used when planning future projects.

Ps. Do you have an idea for a project related to activism or civil society? Maybe send us a message??

Towards Action was a youth project co-funded by the European Union.

Mouthing The Words: texts for performance 2019–2025 is now available globally via @antennebooks, including the US, where we’ve received many inquiries. We’re pleased to be able to offer the book to readers worldwide, honks to Antenne Books.

Mouthing The Words: texts for performance 2019–2025
by Jaakko Pallasvuo @avocado_ibuprofen

𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 consists of texts written to be performed. Sometimes this means a text written as the initial component to a theatrical production. Sometimes a text has been written to be spoken by someone without much other splendour. The words exist to be said, sung or put into action.

The texts collected in this book have been written for Amnesia Scanner, Teo Ala-Ruona and Maria Metsalu, among others. The words have been uttered in theaters, performance venues and contemporary art institutions in Berlin, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Tallinn, London, et cetera.

Collecting these texts in book form strips them of their original context while placing them in parallel with each other. A thread runs through them. A thread across time and space. Words are so thin they can resist all this entropy and erosion for a while. Why is there an inkling that all these texts might be one text? This book is, possibly, the slow emergence of three quarters of one idea. In an ideal scenario perceiving this idea taking shape is beautiful and thrilling.
