🏔️UPDATE ON MAMA COTACACHI 🏔️

We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood with Kichwa communities on the ground by donating, sharing, and helping bring attention to what was happening in Mama Cotacachi. 🌀

Because resources reached Kichwa-led organizations directly, communities were able to respond to what was needed by providing supplies, gear, medicine, and food to those working to protect the lands. 🌱

This is not the end of the response. It is part of a much longer process of protecting and caring for our territories. ⛰️🌿

🚨MAMA COTACACHI WILDFIRE🚨

🔔[MUTUAL AID IS NOW CLOSED]

🔥 A wildfire has struck one of the most sacred mountains for our Kichwa community. Mama Cotacachi is on fire. In three days, over 600 hectares have been affected, and, as too often happens, it is Indigenous communities on the frontlines, fighting to protect the lands.

Mama Cotacachi is not just a sacred place. She is a source of water for the surrounding communities, their crops, and all of the animals that call the páramo home.

Community members from surrounding communities, along with firefighters and volunteers from all over Imbabura have been fighting these flames. But they need our support!

They need food, water, protective equipment, and emergency supplies.

@kichwacollective is raising funds to help with this community response. All donations will go directly to Indigenous organizations on the ground getting urgent supplies to people fighting this fire and who have been affected by this fire.

🌱 Today, we are launching our Emergency Fund Impact Report for the period of September–November 2025. This report is provided in gratitude—and for transparency—to everyone who supported this initiative in solidarity with our communities impacted during the 2025 national strike (paro).

🌱 Thanks to your generous support thus far, over 50 families and dozens of communities have been supported and shown that they are not alone in this struggle. The report details where the funds were allotted, our decision-making process, and shares a few messages of gratitude from folks who received your donations. This report will also live on our webpage and be updated as we continue this work.

❤️‍🩹 These past weeks have given us space and time to speak to community leaders and brigade leaders to clarify where the needs still lay. With over 400 injured, 38 in critical condition, 13 in active legal proceedings, and 3 killed, there is still much support needed.

On this #GivingTuesday 💙 we ask that you all continue to show your solidarity. As communities in Imbabura continue to heal from the devastating impacts of the paro in September–October 2025, your support has direct impact. By supporting, we can ensure that the memory of this paro is upheld, people’s sacrifices are honored, and we continue showing solidarity across borders in this long-term fight against global fascism and colonization. ✊🏽🌎🔥

Luis Henry Jacome still needs our support! ✊

Today, he, the other 11 compañeros, and Gina Cahuasqui are once again facing the courts in their ongoing trial. On October 24, after dialogue was established between Kichwa community leaders and the courts, 11 of the 12 Kichwa men detained during the protests were released. Gina Cahuasqui was also released shortly after her detention.

All of them were falsely charged with terrorism—charges that are now being reviewed by the courts. But Luis Henry’s case was mishandled from the beginning, and he remains imprisoned, now for 55 days. ⚖️

Luis Henry is innocent and the sole caretaker and provider for his elderly mother . We remain hopeful that his case will be heard and he will be freed. We remain hopeful that justice will prevail for him, for Gina, and the other compañeros.

¡Luis Henry Jacome todavía necesita nuestro apoyo! ✊

Gathering of Kichwa migrant communities, united for the NO.

We defend our rights and make it clear: NO to the referendum. Even far from home, we continue protecting what our peoples have built through struggle.

Today we run a Chaski, inspired by the traditions of our ancestors and elders, where messengers once ran to carry the collective voice. Now, our steps keep that living connection between communities strong; from here and there, we carry decisions, memory, and resistance across all our territories.

Our message is clear: we run and walk so that the NO is heard loud and strong. As Kichwa migrant peoples, we sustain our continuity beyond borders, for a future of justice and dignity. 🌀

🌎✨ On the eve of Ecuador’s 2025 Consultation and Referendum, we in the migrant community ask ourselves: Why are we at the polls again? 🤔🗳️
A vote for ‘No’ is a vote for a legacy of struggles, disputes, contradictions, and many collective historical processes.

As a migrant community, we know very well the facts of an autocracy.

That is why we reject this false consultation and categorically reject a constitution in service of a government turned landowner. by @kichwacollective

#AllEyesOnImbabura We call on the international community to keep its eyes on Imbabura tonight through tomorrow, as speculation grows of an unmeasured—potentially lethal—military operation in the region.

#MulluNews | #Ecuador 🗣️ Radio Inti Pacha: “We Will Keep Fighting”

During a press conference, Radio Inti Pacha announced the 15-day suspension of its signal, ordered by ARCOTEL. From Cayambe, the community radio of the Kayambi people, born from the organizing process of the Cangahua communities, denounced the measure as an attempt to silence Indigenous voices and reaffirmed that it will continue broadcasting through its digital platforms.

The station emphasized that Indigenous peoples have fought to secure their right to communicate, a right recognized by the Ecuadorian Constitution and international treaties that protect media plurality and diversity.

This suspension adds to a series of restrictions against community media, which have played a crucial role in defending territories and reporting on social and environmental issues. by @kichwacollective

Nothing will be the same. October 14th marked one of the hardest days our communities have lived through. The repression left families, youth, and elders deeply impacted, some severely injured and currently hospitalized, some lost limbs and Noboa killed another one of our compañeros, Jose Guaman.

Yesterday, on our show, we spoke to one of those victims and heard his heart wrenching testimony on how he was violently assaulted by the military, detained, and, even after being freed, still feeling the physical impacts of military abuse on his body and mind. The fear and anger we are feeling is real but we are rallying together to try and help as much as we can.

Thanks to your support, funds have thus far gone directly to aid injured relatives needing immediate medical assistance as well as to impacted families of those illegally detained. As we move through this, and seriously understand the magnitude of the violence that took place on the 14th, the needs continue to rise and so does our fight to make sure our communities are supported.

We’re continuing to raise funds for direct assistance-now and for the long term-to help our community heal and rebuild. Help is appreciated now more than ever. Any little bit helps!

INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY MEDIA UNDER ATTACK

@danielnoboaok ‘s goverment has suspended the signal of Radio Ilumán 106.7 FM, a Kichwa community radio station that has been reporting on the National Strike and military repression in Otavalo.

Radio Ilumán has been a trusted voice for over 25 years, broadcasting in Kichwa and Spanish to the communities of Otavalo, Cotacachi, Antonio Ante, and Urcuquí — amplifying Indigenous voices and realities from the ground.

This suspension is a direct attack on freedom of speech and an attempt to silence Indigenous community media that has been disproving Noboa’s propaganda and exposing state violence.

We stand in solidarity with Radio Ilumán and all community journalists defending the right to communicate and resist repression. by @kichwacollective

The police are denying lawyers from entering the premises where they are holding the people detained today in Otavalo. This is a denial of access to legal representation, a violation of a fundamental human right.
