@kicknknowledge A huge THANK YOU to @nike @nikenyc @nihalknows and the Nike Oregon team for connecting us with the incredible Nike NYC team and opening the doors of Nike NY Headquarters to our students! 🙏🏾❤️

Our KickNKnowledge Inc students from @fashionhighnyc and @ps58xcommunityschool had the opportunity to tour the space, present their sneaker designs to Nike employees, receive real industry feedback, play basketball, eat some good food 🍕, and even leave with some Nike giveaways. 👟🔥

And in the middle of the students presenting… Spike Lee stopped by to say hello! 🎬🏀🗽 A NYC moment they definitely won’t forget.

This experience was the perfect way to close out our last school year. As we begin a NEW year, we’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to continue giving young people access to the people, places and opportunities within the sneaker, fashion and design industries.

EAST HARLEM, New York (WABC) -- A program in New York City is helping hundreds of students kick their passion for fashion design into high gear.

The classes are open to all young people but focus on kids in underrepresented communities - by hosting workshops with major companies.

At Innovation Charter High School, inspiration is all around. Just ask fellow student Ashley Ortega, 15, who was featured in a Nike campaign, wearing sneakers she actually designed herself and hopes to inspire other girls to get in on what is a billion-dollar industry.

"To be the person who's like, 'Hey, a woman designed that' would be amazing," said Ortega.

That sense of confidence is encouraged and applauded at KickNKnowledge, a program that teaches sneaker and fashion design to students in underserved communities. @kicknknowledge @abcnews @kemrichardson7 THANK YOU for visiting out HIgh School @innovation_hs_ and allowing our youth to share there stories and aspirations @kemrichardson7 we cannot thank you enough for taking the time to listen to our young people they were so inspired and motivated by you and your visit !!!

We’re extremely grateful to Mugsy McFly for coming through to Fashion High School and spending time working directly with our young creatives.

Mugsy’s connection to KickNKnowledge Inc. goes deep through his longtime friendship with one of our founding members, Abraham, @_gottabe_ which made having him share his journey, knowledge, and creativity with our students even more special.

We’ve also been longtime supporters of the work Mugsy continues to do throughout his community — from his community fair and back-to-school events to opening the doors of his Bronx makerspace to young people and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Beyond being an incredible artist and independent creative, his journey shows young people what it looks like to build something of your own, navigate the creative industry independently, give back to your community, and bring others along with you.

We’re extremely grateful to Foot Locker for their continued support of KickNKnowledge Inc. and our young people throughout this year — from grant support that has helped us expand our programming and resources, to showing up in person and investing their time directly into our students.

At our September 25th Design Day at Fashion High School, the Foot Locker team engaged with students in real conversations about career pathways, employment opportunities, balancing school and work while pursuing higher education, work-life balance, communication, interviewing, and how to professionally present themselves when applying for jobs.

Most importantly, they showed our students how to take the next step — including how to apply directly for opportunities with Foot Locker and begin turning career preparation into actual employment opportunities.

For us, these experiences are about more than designing sneakers and fashion. It’s about giving young people the skills, relationships, confidence, and access to see a pathway forward.

Thank you to the entire Foot Locker team for continuing to show up for our youth. We truly appreciate the partnership and look forward to continuing to build together in the near future! 🙏🏽👟❤️

OUR KICKNKNOWLEDGE DESIGN PROFESSIONALS 🎨🔥

A huge thank you to Aaron, Abraham, Luis “Scrams” Vasquez & Brian for helping make our September 25th Design Fair & Master Classes at Fashion High School an incredible experience for our youth.

🎨 Luis “Scrams” Vasquez @luisvasquezgallery led a hands-on graffiti workshop, sharing his creativity and giving students another way to express themselves through art.

🔥 Aaron @aluis.art & Abraham @_gottabe_ were there throughout the day supporting our students, participating in the Awake NY workshop and helping bring our Student Sneaker Presentation to life.

👟 Brian, @sneakysoleshoes an amazing shoemaker and design professional, shared the story of our summer program and his experience working hands-on with our students as they learned to build their own sneakers from the ground up.

FROM AN IDEA TO THEIR FEET. 👟🔥

21 young designers. 21 handmade sneakers. During our Summer SYEP Program at Fashion High School, our students went from sketching and cutting leather to sewing, lasting and finishing — building their own sneakers from A to Z.

Six of our young designers got to show off their finished sneakers at our Fashion High School Design Fair, representing the incredible work of the entire 21-student cohort. ❤️

They didn’t just design sneakers. They MADE them.

Major THANK YOU to Foot Locker & LISC for the support that helped make this dream a reality for our young people. 🙏🏽❤️

Taking his name "McFly" from the 1985 sci-fi classic film, Back to the Future, this wildly imaginative self-taught Bronx designer and entrepreneur framed his masterclass on inspiration, innovation, and determination.

What a privilege to have graffiti artist Luis Vasquez teach a Masterclass to HSFI's 12th grade students.

Luis Vasquez is the newly appointed Creative Director of Packer shoes - the oldest Nike account on the east coast.

"Graffiti got me in a lot of doors. It got me into fashion. Big time. Take what you learn and apply it to what you want to do in life."
