Fifty years ago Roy Ayers released his seminal hit “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” and the soundtrack to summer in the city was changed forever. A short while later, in the golden haze of an ’80s afternoon, outsider artist Gerald Jackson transformed his tenement rooftop, high above the Bowery, into a stage. With the still-new Twin Towers dominating the horizon behind him, the artist danced freely among the skylights and antennas, capturing the moment in paintings, photographs, and works on paper.

This weekend those folks get down vibes are coming to Los Angeles…

On Friday June 12 from 600-800p Parker Gallery opens its Rooftop Paintings show, marking Gerald’s triumphant return to Southern California.

On Saturday June 13 from 100-500p Zebulon and legendary DJ Garth Trinidad will kick the summer off right with a free daytime party celebrating Gerald’s art and poetry, along with a vinyl pop-up and free popsicles!

Bringing things full circle, signed copies of Nabil Ayers’ stirring memoir about the distant relationship with his biological father, “My Life In The Sunshine” will be raffled away at Zebulon, along with zines of Gerald Jackson’s poetry and commemorative posters.

My fifth Grammys in the books!! This was a year of bittersweet changes - end of the CBS era and our last year with Trevor - and tremendous challenges. But the (newly expanded) team came together and executed flawlessly. So psyched to have Rita shine a spotlight on the craft of songwriting, Dao and Max add some PVBLIC SCHOOL flavor to our storytelling, and a return to the Red Carpet of our reigning champ Don Lemon and his handsome bodyguard Tim. What I enjoy most is sharing these moments with Jack and Lucy in what has to be one of the most extravagant ‘bring your kids to work’ days ever. (You’re not missing the fun next year, @magicalraialexandra!!). by @kidmedium

Feeling that ‘phantom limb’ thing today after an epic weekend with my #1 guy, @ender.toi. We drove to the high desert to celebrate his 30th and spent 48 hours laughing, crying, cooking, hiking, UFC-ing, fleeing thunderstorms and exploring The End Of The World.
