Why rice?

Rice has a texture that is:
Slightly cool to the touch; evenly distributed in that they are all the same size and feel the same; weighty when children lift a handful or when they are sitting in it; smooth to the touch, not sticky, sandy or scratchy; and don’t forget, rice doesn’t get stuck between your fingers (but it loves to get stuck between your toes!).

Rice is a great tactile experience to help with calming us down to help us regulate. It is such an effective strategy that helps children who have tactile defensiveness as well as those who are sensory seeking!

And to top it all off, we have our giant rice box inside an awesome clubhouse tent! Being inside of the tent helps to close off all other distractions and makes us feel safe and cozy. Our rice tent is so calming overall, it’s top fav at Kids’ Therapy Place!

I mean, who DOESN’T love going on a swing?! 🥳🎉

Actually, not all children initially tolerate swings. Some are afraid of movement; some are sensitive to spinning or heights. These swings are loads of fun, but they are also hard work! 😆
.
.
Our swings help with:
🌟Vestibular Hypersensitivity
🌟Sensory seeking
🌟Improve Balance
🌟Core & Upper Extremity Strengthening
.
.
Swings help us work hard when we feel like we are just having fun. We can strengthen our arms, shoulders, and even our neck muscles! 💪💪
.
.
There are so many different types of swings that serve different needs. Certain swings help integrate our primitive reflexes while also strengthening our mature ones, such as protecting ourselves when we fall or righting ourselves when we are off balance! 👍

And anyway…. Who doesn’t want to know what it feels like to fly every now and then?! 🪽🦋

We’re lighting things up at KTP! 💡

Our new light box has been such a hit, and here are 3 creative ways we’ve been using it in sessions:

1️⃣ Exploring textures with the included sand
2️⃣ Coloring fun with dry erase markers
3️⃣ Building and learning with our Magformers

It’s been amazing for visual attention, fine motor skills, and sensory play — and the kids are loving it!

Twenty years!

Where has the time gone? It seems like only yesterday we were saying that we would NEVER open our own practice! What happened?!?!?!

Two sisters with a dream to open a different kind of therapy practice. The type of practice that focused on the child. That made each child feel cherished and loved. That supported the family and held their hands while empowering them to raise and enable- and cherish- their children. A place that seemed like home to each and every child that entered our center.

We have strived for 20 YEARS to create this concept. We have given our hearts, our time and our expertise. We take our dedication to Occupational Therapy and our love of the children we serve very seriously….

Ourselves? Not so much… 🤪

Thank you for supporting us and helping us achieve our goals.

We are looking forward to another 20 years!
