What’s beneath the concrete matters just as much as what’s being built above it.

Before crews begin drilling, cutting or coring, understanding what’s hidden within existing structures is critical to protecting workers, preventing damage and keeping complex projects on track.

“We treat it as though a penetration into concrete is like penetration into the ground,” said Pat Wilson, operations manager with Kiewit’s Western Canada District.

Wilson shares how Kiewit approaches concrete penetration through pre-task planning, risk management and field verification in a recent On-Site Magazine interview. From using detailed BIM models to coordinate work across trades to verifying existing conditions before construction begins, thoughtful planning helps our teams make informed decisions and reduce risk.

The City of Sherman Wastewater Treatment Plant has been recognized with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Project Excellence Award.

At WEFTEC 2026 in New Orleans, Kiewit was proud to celebrate the Sherman project team and share more about the project with water and wastewater professionals at the Kiewit booth, where visitors could explore a 3D model of the facility and see how its systems fit together.

A big surprise for an even bigger cause ...

Representatives from @completelykids_ joined us at Kiewit headquarters today to receive a donation from this year's Kiewit Fore Charity Classic. What they didn't expect was a record-breaking $728,525!

Thanks to the generosity of our employees, golfers and sponsors, we surpassed last year's fundraising total by more than $166,000.

These funds will support Completely KIDS in providing essential programs and resources for children and families across Omaha.

“This is more than we could have imagined,” said Carla Rizzo, CEO of Completely KIDS. “This gift could fund an entire year of mental health services for the children and families we serve. There is so much we can do with these funds, and we are beyond grateful to everyone who made it possible.”

Alicia Edsen, executive vice president of Kiewit Building Group Inc., said this event embodies Kiewit's commitment to stewardship. “Organizations like ours have a responsibility to help strengthen the communities where we live and work."

Some of the electricity that powers New York City begins hundreds of miles away.

Our crews worked across New York state to install approximately 147 miles of underground transmission line through farmland, wetlands and along railroads. In Queens, another team built the Astoria Converter Station. Together, those projects made up Kiewit’s scope on the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE).

As Kiewit’s first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project in the United States, CHPE challenged our teams to find new ways to plan, design and build.

The project delivers enough electricity to power more than one million homes while strengthening grid reliability and supporting New York’s clean energy goals.

Construction is officially underway on the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project.

State, federal and local leaders broke ground last week to mark the start of construction on Alabama’s largest transportation infrastructure project.

As part of the design-build team for Kiewit Massman Traylor, a Joint Venture (KMT), Kiewit is helping deliver Phase One, which includes a new six-lane, cable-stayed Mobile River Bridge, as well as improvements to key interchanges and traffic flow, and restriping the existing Bayway to provide six lanes of capacity across Mobile Bay. A suspension bridge spans a river with city buildings and skyscrapers in the background, including the recognizable skyline of Mobile, Alabama. by @kiewitcorp

Project Manager Kory Kyllo gives a closer look at the project scope and the collaborative delivery behind the City of Sherman Wastewater Treatment Plant, recently recognized with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Project Excellence Award.

The $289 million CMAR project delivered a new membrane bioreactor facility with 4 MGD of initial capacity and the ability to expand to 16 MGD, along with improvements tied to the existing plant. by @kiewitcorp

We are saddened by the passing of Richard S. Weeks, a leader whose people-first approach helped shape @weeksmarine, a subsidiary of Kiewit.

Rich joined the family business in 1970 and went on to serve as president and CEO, guiding the company through decades of growth and change. During his tenure, Weeks Marine expanded beyond dredging into marine and heavy civil construction, positioning the business to take on more complex work.

Today, many of the principles Rich helped establish continue to guide Weeks Marine’s work as part of Kiewit.

We extend our condolences to the Weeks family and all who had the opportunity to work alongside him. by @kiewitcorp

Progress continues on the High-Fidelity Training and Operations Center (HFTOC) at the Savannah River Site.

Kiewit recently joined Savannah River Nuclear Solutions and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Principal Deputy Administrator Scott Pappano in recognizing continued progress on the HFTOC.

The milestone marked the first delivery of equipment that will be used to train workers for future plutonium pit production operations and reflects the collaboration of the project's progressive delivery approach, helping turn critical national security priorities into progress in the field.
