This time last year, I was with the @a_new_plane team in NYC installing ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ at the @metmuseum. Andrew Bolton wanted to showcase a 1988 haute couture jacket by @ysl in one of the exhibition’s room. A marvelous piece inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s 1889 painting Irises that took embroidery atelier @lesage, 600 hours of handwork, 200.000 beads, 250.000 sequins in 22 colors, and 250 meters of ribbon. I was asked to make a digital twin of that jacket in 3D. I’m really greatfull that I accepted this challenge because the outcome is probably one of the most beautifull thing I ever made! I got the pleasure to join the @8849.io squad for 6 months last year. Amazing team! We worked on the CGI shots of two @lancomeofficial foundation campaigns featuring @cturlington, @vanessa__kirby and @joysunday. This is the shots I worked on, that made it to the final edit, for the second film. My job was to do the layouts, simulations, and first look dev phases. The challenge here was the shot with the stick that interract with the foundation. In order to be efficient and able to add all the small details wanted by the client, I decided to do no simulation at all for that shot. Simulations can be tricky to art direct sometimes. This shot is a simple combinaison of mask and blendshapes that gawe me a better and simplier control. The biggest challenge I got was to find the right visual langage for the strips. A perfect simulation mix of tension, smoothness and liquidity.
