It took me a while to get here.

Not just to the places—but to the realization that travel isn’t something I do, it’s who I am. It’s how I live, how I work, how I see things, even when I’m home. It’s about noticing, seeking, staying curious.

Wherever I go, I’m always in pursuit of “the good stuff.” The perfect coffee shop. The best vintage homeware. The under-the-radar local spots. I’ve always felt that if I’m going to go somewhere—or do something—it better be great. Otherwise, why bother? For me, it’s about seeking beauty, meaning, and the magic in the details wherever I am.

Life Lately.
Sometimes I wonder what the f I’m doing (ok often) and then I look around at the life I’ve built, the places I live, the career I’ve had, the community that supports me and I have to admit, life is pretty good. by @kimalves

This is the end of a chapter. My desert chapter.

Last week I packed up my house in Joshua Tree and walked out the door for the last time.

This place was a labor of love. It wasn’t easy (the desert rarely is), but it became a refuge when I needed one most. Some of my favorite memories happened here: late-night hot tubbing under the desert stars, living room dance parties, line dancing in dusty cowboy boots and sunrises in the boulder fields.

But what I loved most, what I was really chasing, was the version of myself I found here. Freer, lighter, more open.

Then one weekend, while hosting some of my closest friends and family, I realized this wasn’t my place anymore. It represented a version of my life that no longer existed, a version of myself that was ready to move on.

You just have to know when it’s time.

I’ll always be grateful for what the desert taught me. But sometimes you have to let go of a place to make room for what comes next 💫 taken in Yucca Valley/Joshua Tree by @kimalves

People often ask me about traveling on my own. Years ago, I made a decision. If I wanted to go somewhere or do something, I wasn’t going to wait for someone else or say “yes” to something just to avoid traveling alone.

That decision opened me up to places I never would have seen, people I never would have met and some of my best experiences.

I know it seems unthinkable to some, so I decided to write about traveling solo (and why everyone should do it) on Substack for @inpursuitof.co
