I didn’t get to a No King’s event, but I DID finish writing 100 postcards to Texas voters today. They get mailed next week. These all simply remind recipients to get out and vote. by @kimkuhne

Our first K-Pop concert last night… Aespa! Such a fun experience! There are only 4 singers in the group, and their rap specialist was sick for most of it. Our favorite, Winter, is still dealing with shingles, so not in top form either. Still a great night! by @kimkuhne

Thanks to Northwest Stair and Rail out of Everett, we have finally completed the project we started just before COVID. We were waiting on the new railings until after the siding work was done. Since that “finished” the day before lockdown started and took months to actually wrap….this got pushed down the To-Do list. I highly recommend this family business! by @kimkuhne

I met up with my parents and Holly Shenefiel at the Blooms and Makers event in Monroe this morning. The site, Pine Creek Nursery, has so many fun plants and old things to make your garden unique and fun! by @kimkuhne

Recipe win today!! I make a LOT of chili. Sometimes I do everything from scratch, sometimes I like to use a base to save some time. Today I was trying 2 things: Muir Glen Chili Starter (in medium) and adding red lentils to add protein and fiber. Success!!! Great flavor with only 30 minutes of hands on time and 2ish hours of simmering.

I boiled 1/2 cups of lentils in 2 cups of broth while I diced half a bell pepper and 1 whole yellow onion. After 10 minutes boiling, I moved lentils and broth to a bowl and then sautéed the ground meat with a bit of garlic. I drained the fat off the meat near the end and added my onions, pepper, lentils and remaining broth to the meat. I cooked on low until the onions got soft. Added the can of starter and TWO cans of beans. Stir to combine. Heat to boiling and then reduce to a simmer until ready to eat. Medium was plenty spicy for us.

The recipe on the can calls for just 1# of meat and 1 can of rinsed beans. I normally do 1# meat with 2 cans of beans and 1 onion. Extra liquid with the extra beans to start helps them soften.

As I said, I’ve tried other “starters”, but this was the best so far. by @kimkuhne

The holidays are coming!! Jeremy and I spent time over the past few days doing 2 play throughs of Cozy Stickerville. This is a cooperative game where your choice in every turn impacts what you can do later on. Downside: this game ONLY has 2 play throughs. The choices you make the first time limit what you can do the second.

It was clever and cozy, but has some good discussion points for parents wanting to teach some life lessons.

A family would go through this more slowly than 2 adults. Amazon currently has it for $40. I think it’s a great choice for families with kids 8 and up, playing with adults. by @kimkuhne

Small project this week… make an apron for my sister using waxed canvas. (For wearing doing woodwork)

Well, the waxed canvas is fun, the plastic buckle pieces I had are cheap, and the pattern makes a small apron. So…. I’ll be modifying the pattern to make one for Holly Shenefiel that will actually fit.

After I use this one for measurements, it can go to a new home. It will fit adult small/medium and can only be spot cleaned. It is ideal for a workshop. by @kimkuhne

My project this week…. I can easily carry water, phone, and wallet on walks when I don’t have pockets. I’m still getting comfortable with zippers. The trim on this is all 5/8” fold over elastic that I had never worked with before. So, far from perfect.

Pattern by Sallie Tomato, fabric is part of the Abandoned line from Jim Holtz. by @kimkuhne
