What started as a little idea has turned into something pretty bloody exciting.

Three years of trials, tweaks, setbacks and a whole lot of determination.

And now we’re just weeks away from launching BEE WELL, our very first Everyday Skin Relief range, powered by Mānuka honey straight from our own hives on the East Coast of NZ.

Hey, we’re Mike and Cate King – the founders of King Bees.

What started over ten years ago as a deep love for beekeeping and the wild East Coast has grown into something way bigger than just honey. We’re partners in life, business, and purpose; Mike wrangles the hives, Cate brings the creative sting. Together, we’ve built King Bees to reflect what matters most to us: family values, creativity, lifestyle and doing right by the land and the bees.

We do life out here on the coast of New Zealand with our four kids, barefoot, sun-kissed, and always knee-deep in nature. They’ve grown up immersed in the rhythms of the wild, learning the same lessons the bees teach us: respect the land, move with the seasons, and protect what matters.

We’ve spent the last decade immersed in this craft learning, grafting, and growing alongside the bees. And let’s be honest, beekeeping’s hard yakka at the moment. So we’re not here to follow the same old path. We’re breaking the mold, bringing a bold, quirky, fresh take to the world of Mānuka honey.

While bee populations are dropping around the globe, we’re doing things differently, growing sustainably by putting bee health first. Education, care, and respect for the hives always comes first. That’s just how we roll.

Our business is rooted where we live: rugged, remote, and ruled by the seasons. We don’t try to tame the land we work with it, learning from nature and treading as lightly as we can.

This isn’t just our job. It’s our life. And we’re damn proud of the honey that flows from it.

When we say our hives are by the sea, we mean it.

Out here on the rugged East Coast of NZ, our bees work with whatever Mother Nature throws their way.

Pacific Ocean breezes, salt air, golden sunshine, wild weather and a landscape covered in native Mānuka.

No two seasons are ever the same. And that’s exactly what makes our honey so special.

Some say… bees spend winter spooning the Queen.

Turns out… they kinda do.

When the temperature drops, thousands of bees huddle together, generate their own heat and live off the honey they worked all season to store.

No heater. No electric blanket. No power bill.

Just a very clever little colony looking after its own.

Chewy, fudgy, crunchy, everything a brownie should be, and no baking required.

Chewy from the dates, fudgy from the @kingbeeshoney , crunchy from a little soy crisp folded through. Genuinely nourishing ingredients doing all the work here.

Recipe

8 medjool dates, pitted
6 big tablespoons nut butter
2 teaspoons King Bees honey
1/4 cup cocoa
50g dark chocolate, melted
2 tablespoons soy crisp or chopped nuts
Sea salt sprinkle

Method

Blend the dates, nut butter, honey and cocoa until combined,

Press into a lined tray, and place in the freezer for 15 minutes. Pour the soy crisp or nuts into the melted dark chocolate then pour the over the top of the slice.
Sprinkle with a little sea salt and
Set in the freezer until firm, then slice.

No oven, no fuss, and genuinely tastes like a proper treat.
