SXSW was a trip!

We found out in December that it had been selected, and it was all hands on deck from that moment forward, bringing together an installation that could accommodate 1000+ people moving through the experience over the course of a week in Austin.

It was humbling to have my first VR film showcased in competition on such a major world stage.

Big love to producer Alex Darby, Greg Truono and the team at The Hybrid Studio for pulling this off with care, humour, and grit. In March we took Honey Fungus to SXSW2025 for its World Premiere 🎥🍄

Over four days, we saw 1,000 people step into this speculative ecosystem and explore what it means to build intimacy through ecology. We talked embodied experiences, non-linear storytelling, and queer ecologies with the diversity of attendees that descend on Austin for this wild ride of a festival.

We’re so grateful for the conversations, connections, and curiosity. And we’re especially glad we got to bring erotic fungus to the festival floor.

Congrats to team Honey Fungus for making this project so special, and thank you to @jblakeneyk @sxsw for believing in this project!

New book out now. I've written a chapter for Queer Flora, Fauna, and Funga, edited by Frances Cannon and published by Valiz.

My contribution is called Unfathomable Intimacies, and it pulls together some of my thinking around biological evolution and material interdependence. It also includes a photograph of my grandmother with her dog, one of the closest inter-species relationships I've ever witnessed.

A real honour to be part of this one, many of the contributors are writers I was reading while developing Honey Fungus, and thinking through the ideas that have become foundational to my practice.

Huge thanks to @frankyfrancescannon for the invitation and the care brought to editing, and to the whole team at Valiz. The design by Wibke Bramesfeld is really beautiful.

🇹🇼I’m so excited to share that Honey Fungus is currently on view at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art as part of Serendipitous Inspirations, a three-person exhibition exploring moments of creative transformation and reorientation through immersive media. Running October to December 2025, the show brings together works that linger in states of becoming. Curated by @tcellen

Excited to share that Honey Fungus will have its California festival premiere at the Poppy Jasper 20th International Film Festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary at Cura Contemporary Museum in Morgan Hill. Honoured to be part of such a strong international programme, and ready to let the fungus spread across the West Coast! by @kingjonahking

To celebrate four years of Blockbusters, our video and new media artist collective, we put together a special offering, Volume 1, which is a 60 minute single-channel group show comprised of all eight of us. We premiered this at @movingimagenyc in September, which was an event beautifully moderated by EAI Executive Director Rebecca Cleman @rcsharpster and kindly hosted by Tiffany Joy @tiffjoybutler - we r still grinning about this event....

My new essay Digital Puppetry and the Animistic Lineage of Motion Capture is published in the latest Millennium Film Journal. It explores how motion capture and digital avatars extend a much older story about animation, belief, and our relationship to the non-human.

The essay looks at how the impulse to make images move connects to ancient practices of puppetry and ritual, and how the tools we use to simulate life expose the strange overlap between technology, labour, and myth. It looks at other artists who are using high-fidelity digital avatars in their work and asks what it means to puppeteer images conjured by global technocapitalist networks.
