Kior’s contribution to Kento Season 01 began with a memory she had almost forgotten: designing skins for the Winamp player as a teenager in the late 1990s.

The South Korean visual artist and illustrator had recently moved from Microsoft Paint to Photoshop when she discovered the customized interfaces created and shared by people online. Making her own skins became an early creative outlet, even if, as she remembers, the results were sometimes clumsy.

“Listening to music via the player wearing the skin I had designed was a new form of self-expression for me.”

Her card, Skin of Memories, revisits that formative encounter with digital image-making and the joy of shaping technology around your own identity. Creating it allowed Kior to recover a memory that might otherwise have remained hidden in a distant corner of her mind.

A little behind Starstruck — ✶

This one started with the image of Narcissus. Specifically, Caravaggio’s painting of him falling in love with his own reflection and drowning in it. The masterpiece comes across to me as a warning containing a tragic, poignant story. I wanted to see it from a different angle.

The reflection in my version has become something different, not the object you intensely fall in love with. I like to leave that part open, but for me, it can be a past version of you, or a future one. Someone you need to embrace, accept, and be kind to.

All of it rooted in self-love.

Behind the Card 🟦 @kior_____ is a digital artist whose practice explores memory, identity, and early forms of online self-expression.

❇️ For Kento Season 01, she created Skin of Memories: a work inspired by making custom Winamp skins as a teenager in the late ’90s.
Before social profiles became a form of self-expression, there were Winamp skins.

After discovering Photoshop, @kior_____ began designing her own skins for the music player — customizing the interface around the music she listened to and learning digital image-making along the way.

@kior_____ is a South Korean visual artist and illustrator whose work explores emotion, memory, and inner life. Her practice spans digital image-making and personal storytelling, often drawing from early internet culture and formative creative experiences.

Skin of Memories revisits that early creative ritual. What began as a Web Nostalgia prompt brought back a nearly forgotten memory of one of her first ways of expressing himself digitally.

Inner worlds take shape through recurring motifs, where emotions, memories, and unspoken thoughts meet the outside world. by @kior_____
