Helping you become a published author with confidence 📚
#BookEditor of bestsellers in Scotland working with authors all over the world.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi, I’m Kirsten 👋

I’m a book editor and author coach based in Scotland, and for 10+ years I’ve helped authors with imposter syndrome turn rough drafts into books they’re proud of.

Most of the writers I work with are on their very first book. Many come back for the next one, and the one after that (my fave compliment).

How I work: I don’t rewrite your book. I make suggestions, ask questions, offer examples and alternatives, and explain why. So your book still sounds like YOU and you learn as you go.

Honest but kind, always. ♡

Writing your first or next book? Say hello in the comments and tell me what you’re working on.

Want to chat about working together, book a call. All links are in my bio.

📕 Beta Reader Kits 📕

“Everyone said they loved it.” 🙃

Lovely to hear, right? 🎊

Not so useful when you’re trying to make your book better.

Beta readers are only as useful as the questions you ask them, so I created the kits I wish every author had.

Example questions
Steps to follow
My 3-part signature system
Tips on applying the feedback
Advice on protecting your manuscript
Templates, and more…

All tailored to your genre.

Created by an editor, tested on authors (none were harmed during this experiment! My mantra is: Honest but kind, always 💞)

Available now for self-help, historical fiction, business books, romantasy, and LGBT+ fiction, with more coming soon.

They’re paid digital downloads (15–18 pages each) in my Etsy shop, The Author Toolkit. Link in bio.

You know, it takes a long time to NOT write a book 📚

Thinking about it. Planning it. Daydreaming about seeing your name on the cover. But there are more book ideas in the cemetery than there will ever be on Amazon.

So be honest with me... how long have you been thinking about writing your book? Could you have started it by now? 💛

So, imagine your book on these shelves. Then open a blank page and write one paragraph. That’s how every book on these shelves began.

Follow for writing tips, encouragement, and plenty of cheerleading along the way 😊

Writing tip: find your writer friends! ☕✍️

Writing a book can feel lonely, but it really doesn’t have to be. Co-working with author friends (in a café, at the library, or on Zoom) is one of my favourite ways to stay on track:

✅ Accountability: you’ll actually show up and write
✅ Feedback: fresh eyes on your pages when you’re ready to share
✅ It’s fun! Writing sprints, snacks, and plenty of chat about your characters

Don’t have any writing buddies yet? Join an exiting one and ask if anyone would like to co-write one day. Share on social media with your area. Drop a comment with what you’re writing and your home city. Find someone in the comments who’s writing something similar 👇

The clocks went back last night... so we got an extra hour today! ⏰

What if you gave it to your story? 📚

Even one hour can mean a whole new scene, a tricky chapter finally untangled, or a few hundred words closer to The End. So grab a hot chocolate (whipped cream optional, but highly recommended!), get cosy, and write.

Tell me in the comments: what will/did you do with your extra hour? 👇

74 days left in 2026, that can’t be right?!

Almost November already. Is this year or next year the one you start or finish your book? ⏳

You don’t need a perfect writing year. You need a start, and a little bit every day. Just 500 words a day between now and New Year adds up to 37,000 words. That’s a good chunk of a novel!

I’m Kirsten, a book editor and full-time author cheerleader, and I’d love to help you get your book finished and ready for 2027.

Stuck in the messy middle of your book? You're definitely not alone 💛

Here's something a lot of writers don't realise: an editor and a book/author coach do very different jobs.

✏️ A developmental editor (like me!) can help once you've finished your first draft and done some self-editing. We look at the big-picture stuff.

☕ But an author coach can help you:
• get unstuck in the outlining, writing or editing stages
• walk through each stage of your publishing journey
• feel more confident about your book (and yourself!)

I offer 3 coaching options for different levels of support.

DM me "COACH" and let's chat about your book 😊

Happy birthday to Ursula K. Le Guin, born on this day in 1929! 🎂📚

She built worlds that felt as real as our own, and proved that fantasy can be wise, thoughtful, and full of heart💗

So tell me in the comments: which of her books made you fall in love with fantasy? 👇

(And if you haven’t read her yet, I’d love to know which fantasy author first pulled you in!)

Your cosy autumn writing reset 🍂

There’s something about October that makes me want to curl up with a notebook and a hot drink... so let’s put that energy to good use! Here are five small habits to help you finish your draft:

1. Set a tiny daily goal (300 to 500 words is plenty!)
2. Make it a ritual: same time, same drink, same spot
3. Leave notes, not edits. [FIX LATER] is your new best friend
4. Find your people: a writing buddy, a group or beta readers
5. Celebrate every win, big or small

Which one are you trying this week? Tell me in the comments 👇

Save this for your next writing session, and if you’d like some support getting from messy draft to finished book, DM me “DRAFT” 😊

A Monday in my book editor life ☕📚

Coffee and emails first (always!), then it’s time to read a manuscript from a very brave client and write my honest but kind editing suggestions.
Then repeat until we reach those two magic words... The End ✨

Every book I work on gets my full attention, because I only take on a small number of authors at a time.

I’m now booking editing and book coaching from November 2026. If you’d like to chat about your book, DM me “EDIT” 😊

What does your Monday writing routine look like? Tell me below 👇
