There's not one of us who hasn't been touched by sexual assault. We are all Jane Doe. And if we all know someone that has been sexually assaulted, then we all know someone who has done the assaulting.
The Cornell 7 are the tiniest fraction of millions who think this behavior is ok. Let's stop victim blaming and turn to educating boys and men about consent to change this sick culture forever. Let's stop letting them off the hook and implement real and swift consequences to those who violate our bodies. Enough, enough, enough.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to have photographed Gloria Steinem on a number of occasions, including her 90th birthday. She challenged multiple generations of women to stand up for our rights. She urged us to speak up for equality in a society built by the patriarchy.
We will carry her fiery torch with us as we continue to push for equal pay, opportunity and bodily autonomy.
Rest in power sweet Gloria. Thank you. ❤️

@septemberbk became the hub for Cape Verde World Cup games. The 40ish people that came for that first match grew to hundreds, spilling into the street for the next three. Owner Sara Lopes, and her team brought the culture, serving traditional food, and attracting Cape Verdeans from as far away as Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vancouver. She even had to buy two extra TVs to accommodate the crowds.

A friend invited me to September to watch the first game with other Cape Verdeans she had met in a group chat. You could feel the excitement as we walked in.

Owner, Sara Lopes, was born in Cabo Verde, and grew up in Brockton, MA where there is a large Cape Verdean community. She came to New York 18 years ago to escape the community bubble. “For the longest time, I was running away… Because growing up, you’re like, oh, everybody knows your parents.”

When she heard Cabo Verde qualified for the World Cup, she considered buying tickets to a
game. Until friends started to ask if she was showing matches at her cafe. “It felt like a deep responsibility, almost,” she said.

Sara hired Cape Verdean chefs to serve traditional foods such as pastels, barrigada atun, carne gizado and fresquina. Her mom, Maria, came from Massachusetts to make the cachupa, a traditional stew. And Cape Verdean DJs played after the games, making it a true cultural experience.

From running away from her roots as a teen, Sara says that she’s now running towards it.
She’s already planning cultural collaborations and a block party for August 2nd. “I’m looking forward to just really staying connected to everyone that I met, and building on the community.”

For three weeks, I, and so many other football fans, became Cape Verdean. We will all remember Cabo Verde’s contribution to this year’s FIFA World Cup and the communities that welcomed us to cheer alongside them. And now, we all know where Cabo Verde is.

June 26, 2026. Pride weekend.
Egypt Vs Iran.
FIFA nominated this game their Pride 🌈 match as it coincided with Pride weekend all over the country. Both Egyptian and Iranian governments petitioned FIFA to change Pride for this game and thankfully FIFA refused.
I felt the perfect way to celebrate the opening of Pride NYC and the World Cup, was to spend it at @nefertittiesnyc with @anamasreyaxo and the Arab queer community. Egyptians and Iranians were side by side in their love of football, Arab culture, dancing, queerness and drag.
So grateful to @anamasreyaxo & @nefertittiesnyc for allowing me to document the night. taken in TV Eye NYC by @kishabari

I spent some time yesterday with Sara Lopes of @septemberbk in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, NY.
Sara, is from Cabo Verde and decided that instead of going to see a game in person, she felt like it was her responsibility to open up her cafe for the community to support Cabo Verde's team. 'It was a privilege and an honor to show the first game'.
September subsequently became a huge hub for the Cape Verdean World Cup games. The 40 or so people that were at that first game, grew to hundreds, spilling out into the street for the next three games. Sara and her team brought the culture each time, serving traditional food and bringing together Cape Verdeans from as far away as Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vancouver!

CABO VERDEEEE!!! 🇨🇻
Last night, I joined Liza and some of New York's Cape Verdean community at @compoundgallery in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to watch the Cabo Verde vs Uruguay game. Liza & her father wrote the Kriolu dictionary to bring Cape Verdean Kriolu language to the world. Cousin Djofa @kriolubasics joined us from her huge Cape Verdean community in Boston to help educate folks on the culture and bring the vibe.
Cabo Verde brought the futbol in this game, scoring their first ever World Cup goal and really holding their own against a season Uruguayan team! 2-2!!
Let's get to the next round!! 🇨🇻🇨🇻🇨🇻

What a day!! 🇨🇻
I spent today at @septemberbk with the most beautiful Cabo Verde community to watch their epic debut World Cup game against Spain. Ranked 64th, their 0-0 score earned Cabo Verde their first ever World Cup point. Their goalie, Vozinha, played an incredible game and blocked 7 goal attempts by #1 ranked Spain. The island nation only has a population of 530,000 people.
Thanks to my new friend @naleisnaps for inviting me!! 😘

#NoICEintheCup !! As the World Cup approaches, we want all of our communities to feel safe to enjoy 'the people's game'. @noiceinthecup2026 is a national initiative to bring JOY and AWARENESS around futbol and our immigrant communities. We want ICE out of stadiums, watch parties, local businesses and off our streets!
