Last Saturday, on World Day Against the Death Penalty, over 200 of us came together to remember the lives of those who have been hanged by the state.

Our speakers shared about the importance of holding vigil, of feeling grief despite state repression, and of transformative justice and harm reduction. Swipe to read the summaries of each speech.

Thank you to everyone for holding space for one another on this day. May we work towards gentler futures for all, and to continue holding grief for the lives of those we have lost.

10 October is World Day Against The Death Penalty.

So we asked some kids about what they think about the death penalty.

Children are the moral compass of our society.

They also bear the consequences of our choices.

If they know to reject killing, shouldn’t we too?

‼️ PLEASE TAKE NOTE ‼️

The Picnic Against POFMA event that was scheduled for tonight has been CANCELLED ❌❌ . There will be NO EVENT OR SPEECHES tonight at either Hong Lim Park or The Arts and Civil Space.

This is due to the trial ending earlier than expected. Koki will be back in court in January next year. Our scheduled speaker for tonight, Calla, gave her speech at yesterday's Picnic Against POFMA. All speeches will be uploaded to YouTube soon, so watch this space!

Our World Day Against The Death Penalty event, "Unlearning the Death Penalty: Ending the War on the Poor" is still a-go and will be happening this Saturday, 10 October, from 3pm to 5pm at Filmhouse! We can't wait to see you there!

Wish you had more t-shirts you CAN’T wear to court? We’ve got you covered!

🚫 Our POFMA tee lets the absurdity of this law speak for itself. Worn in defiance, for every activist and dissident it's tried to silence.

🕯️ Our Candle tee carries the name of everyone the state has executed since 2020, so they are never forgotten. Worn in solidarity with the belief that mourning is not a crime.

T-shirts are $20 each. Sizes run from XS to 3XL.

Here's what's in store at Unlearning the Death Penalty: Ending the War on the Poor on 10th October, 3-5pm.

The speakers will unpack how the death penalty and other cruel punishments serve as a distraction from truly addressing social concerns like poverty, violence against women, and harmful drug use, and how we can *actually* build a safer, more equal society. We will end the event with a candlelight vigil honouring the lives lost to the gallows since 2020, and pay tribute to the prisoners who've fought for truth and justice from behind bars. Swipe through for the full lineup and programme.

Join 200 others in our grief, rage and protest against state violence.

Date: Saturday, 10th October
Time: 3-5pm
Venue: Redrum @ Filmhouse, Golden Mile Tower, 6001 Beach Rd

I bought this book in a discounted bookstore years ago and remember @paultambyah telling me it’s very good. But because I am a bigger book hoarder than I am a fast reader, it’s been sitting on the shelf—still wrapped in plastic!—for years. Finally started it by borrowing the audiobook on Libby so I can also listen to it while I’m doing other things. I’m still only about 30% into the book but it’s fascinating and staggeringly well-researched.

It’s absolutely incredible to think of the amount of scientific research HeLa cells have enabled—but they were taken in the 1950s, when segregation was still in place in the US, from a working-class Black woman dying of cancer, without her knowledge.

Come play Activist Bingo with us! Can you spot anyone familiar? 🔎

As more and more activists are getting charged, let us remember who we're fighting for — the lives who have been cruelly taken by the state. Come join us on 10th October at World Day Against the Death Penalty, where we'll hold an indoor candlelight vigil, and protest against the recent prosecution of activists for acts of mourning.

From 7 to 9 October, show up in solidarity at Koki's POFMA trial. Court 24A, 1 Havelock Square, 9am-5.30pm

On those same days, come by to Hong Lim Park in the evening for recaps of the trial, as well as lectures on POFMA, 6-8pm.

See you there!
