PLAZA DEL SOL: A NEW DESTINATION FOR FOOD, CULTURE & COMMUNITY All About the Culture joined business owners and community partners for the grand opening of Plaza del Sol, a project of the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) at 990 Payne Avenue. Since LEDC purchased the property in 2020, years of planning and investment have transformed it into a destination with a food hall, commissary kitchen and event center. Despite challenges facing Minnesota’s immigrant communities, the project reflects community resilience and the power of collective determination. The celebration included LEDC Executive Director Alma Flores, U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek, Sen. Clare Oumou Verbeten and Nancy Alvarado-Hazelton of U.S. Bank. Federal support included $1 million in community project funding. We caught up with Heri and Erika Gonzalez of Valentina’s, a Mexican-Italian-American fusion concept, and Isaac Mendez and Medardo Gallareo of Bien Dorados. Erika called the opportunity a chance to learn and grow, personally and professionally. Isaac described it as “an opportunity to keep growing, to keep pushing forward” and “a dream come true.” We also visited Bien Dorados’ kitchen to see how they prepare their popular quesabirria tacos. The food hall also features La Moreliana, a nevería and dessert bar; Deli Cheese Coffee, bringing Venezuelan soul; and Uno Dos Tres Bar. Chef, author and cultural storyteller Amalia Moreno-Damgaard led a live culinary demonstration, highlighting the importance of resources and infrastructure for food entrepreneurs. Plaza del Sol’s licensed commissary kitchen provides food makers, caterers, food truck operators and emerging chefs with access to commercial production space, while its event center offers a welcoming setting for celebrations, professional gatherings and community connections. Come for the food. Stay for the culture. Celebrate the community. 📍 Plaza del Sol | 990 Payne Avenue, St. Paul, MN #AllAboutTheCulture #PlazaDelSol #LEDC #EastSideStPaul #SmallBusiness by @kiyaedwards
My first time workin’ the People of Color Career Fair! @nilesgotyou and I had the awesome task of interviewing job seekers, employers, and partner orgs. How cool that the fair offers free professional headshots, too?! I’m told this was the highest attendance in the fair’s 10-year history. Happy anniversary @poccareerfair
 I’m proud to be part of the team. #peopleofcolorcareerfair #networking @about.the.culture @rmgcorp by @kiyaedwards

I want to thank God for getting me through a season of uncertainty. Now I’m exactly where I want to be. On August 1, I started working for @rmgcorp, the company behind the Prince mural in downtown Minneapolis. My boss is a fierce woman who was Prince’s marketing director and I’ve learned a lot from her already. Thank you, @sharonsmith.akinsanya for pulling me out of underemployment and giving me amazing opportunities, including going on a 2-week press tour with @flytetymejam and @flytetymelewis before their State Fair concert. I got to record their rehearsal at Paisley Park and shoot interviews with several stars such as American Idol @realrubenstuddard. Then I took more video at the actual show. Today, I’m at @thecaprinorthmpls shooting an interview and rehearsal footage with @acymone. Thank you to my friend @iamalexisrogers for connecting me with Sharon. I owe you big time. Ya’ll, after leaving @kare11, I struggled to find meaningful work. So, I picked up a part-time job at a pet boarding facility and continued applying for communications positions. No hair extensions or even contact lenses, I couldn’t afford much on $15/hour. I really liked the dogs but I almost lost my house. And look at God. I went from picking up literal dog poop to riding in a Cadillac with music legends. I also want to thank my man for supporting me financially and spiritually for so long. I love you, Sam! #tldr #lifeupdate #minneapolis #mnmusic by @kiyaedwards

Hello! I’m looking for 2-3 normal, imperfect, pizza loving, Netflix watching, and overall great Twin Cities-area families to host an exchange student this school year. Whether you’re the “boring” or “things are crazy busy around here” type, we want you! Our students are already approved to come for one school year but just need a family. Some are scholarship recipients. Yes, they come as strangers... but they leave as family. Besides, you get to choose the student who best fits your family. Soccer lover, social butterfly, bookworm, etc. Please consider hosting and contact me today! #studentexchange #exchanhestudent #hostfamily @yfu_global @yfuusa by @kiyaedwards
Courtney and I were one of only seven Big Brothers Big Sisters matches to attend @vikings training camp - right on the sidelines! Thank you @bigstwincities, it was unforgettable. 💜💛 by @kiyaedwards
