Day nine: After the best sleeps in over a week, I was ready to take on the final leg of Westbound. Less than five hours and all familiar territory. Utah has dramatic landscapes and barely any traffic.
My spirits were good; but I’d saved Chixdiggit for the end - just in case. That way a cheery singalong was guaranteed and arrival in Cove Fort was most triumphant!
4,481 miles at 70-80 mph with my butt a foot and a half off of the pavement. A few sketchy moments but no real problems. I’m generally a lucky guy; but this is a lot! After years of planning and waiting for everything to line up, I’m so satisfied to have it done!
Extra special thanks to @shelbykeystomyheart for keeping things together at home and for the sweet custom shirt!

Day Eight: Woke up too early; but knew if I got after it, I’d make it home before dark. The plains tried to hypnotize me with the featureless horizon. (That and lack of sleep). Things got livelier in Denver; but the traffic kept moving. It felt good to climb into the familiar mountains and made the last few hours of a 650 mile day easier. Plenty of time to work my way through the catalogues of Gardening not Architecture and the Muffs. Best of all - Home. One more day to go; but I get to spend tonight with @shelbykeystomyheart and my kittens!

Day Seven: A big one at 596 miles. Started out with some lovely colors in Indiana. Halfway through Illinois it started raining. At times it was pretty serious with people pulling off the road and visibility almost nil. Just keep going and push through this storm I thought. 250 miles later it finally settled down to sprinkles. Things dried out as I moved into Kansas, and by nightfall I was cooked. Saw some No Kings protesting in the cities and rocked Bad Religion all day in solidarity!

Day Six: Started off with a fire alarm wake up call. Really helps you get going in the morning.
A quick side trip to @youarehere406 art gallery for some culture,(see additional post). Then back on the road. Only 390 miles; but crossed Columbus, Dayton, and Indianapolis. Rather harrowing; but rocking the Riverdales helped! Finished the day with a 10pm fire alarm at that hotel! (I swear it’s not me pulling them!)

Day Five, Continued: Sorry for the delay, guys! Unfortunately, the person in charge of Kris’s trip updates (me) suffered a small setback towards the end of this week (my generally well-established short attention span coupled with a bit of sleep deprivation at the end of tax season) and fell a bit behind with the daily updates. To follow up from where we left off yesterday, Kris completed the first leg of his journey in Baltimore where I-70 rather unceremoniously and abruptly ends in a glorified parking lot/loop. Kris hopped out of the car for a quick obligatory selfie and then got immediately started on the westbound leg of the trip. He said the drive through Pennsylvania and Maryland was absolutely beautiful but also stressful and tiring and described the road as “like going over Vail pass for 3 and a half hours straight and half the cars are going 80 miles an hour and half the cars are going 40 miles an hour and no one here turns their headlights on when it starts to get dark”. We’re learning so much about our brothers and sisters to the northeast during Kris’s trip! Kris pushed west until New Stanton, PA before stopping for the night and when I finally had a chance to talk to him he sounded just about as tired as I’ve heard him sound during this trip so far. The rest of the trip back west should be easier and soon Kris will be back on home turf. He grew up driving back and forth between Illinois and Colorado on I-70 so the stretch east of Indiana was the only unfamiliar territory. If things continue to go according to plan, Kris thinks that he’ll be back home at some point on Sunday. Stay tuned! by @kkeys147

I was gratefully able to visit @youarehere406 gallery to witness the Extra-Ordinarily Strange exhibit in person.
(Attendance WAS mandatory after all!)
This exhibit featured loads of spooky masterpieces including several from our friend @bface.art !!
I met the resident shaman, Jen. In addition to being an absolute delight to chat with, Jen pointed out a door painted by @kepighoulie!
Don’t let my terrible selfies scare you off. Check out these great artists and weirdly wonderful gallery!
