One final post for August…getting back in behind the lens to capture the 50k runners at @lewistonultraevents Moose Mountain. I feel like I’m the lucky one, squeezing in a few miles, soaking in the mountain views + getting inspired by each runner who tags the summit. Whether it’s a friendly face or perfect stranger, front runner or chasing the cutoff, capturing y’all is an opportunity I cherish. Your grit, strength + perseverance stay fresh in my mind as I toe the line for my own races, and for that I am grateful 🫶🏼.

Almost made me forget about the flat tire I got driving up Moose Mountain road…all I can say is thank goodness for friends with portable air compressors (I now have one of my own, lesson learned!).

Thanks also go out to @nikos.fastlight (the real pro) for my very own action shot 🙏🏼.

Other August highlights…it was a busy month, but we made the most of our short summer + filled it with ice cream, korean BBQ, new trails (Elijah’s first Prairie ascent!) + an education in wild mushrooms 🍄. Take me back…

A very belated post to recap my 2nd ultra of 2025…my first go at the Squamish 50k. Admittedly, it was in the middle of a family road trip, so I’m not sure I was setting myself up for my best performance, but it was pretty memorable having the whole fam there. I know it wasn’t easy on @shawnlywood, having to wake up at an ungodly hour to shuttle me from Whistler to Squamish, then hold down the fort + cheer me on at various points along the way, so thank you to the most selfless + supportive partner one could ask for (especially for taking E to a walk-in clinic to for his ear infection while I ran) ♥️.

While it poured the Friday prior to the race, and continued to rain part of Saturday for the 50 mile race, Sunday turned out to be dry, blissfully temperate + overcast - what a dream! The volunteers + aid stations were all very well organized. The trails were beautiful + lush, but technical…@jeannineavelino wasn’t joking that none of the course is flat + my body certainly felt it. My usual niggles did not make an appearance, but I randomly struggled with an angry right TFL instead, go figure. That being said, I was proud of myself for keeping it mostly in check + dialing in my hydration/nutrition this race. Focused on staying positive and spreading positive energy to those around me. Even shared some trail time deep in the pain cave w/ @maks_holovatyi. And while the last few km back into town on pavement were excruciating, I got a bit emotional running the last few meters with Elijah, hand in hand. Got my first Gary hug. Met his parents out crushing it on the course. Stayed under my goal time. Spent a lovely evening catching up with @danielmtl + @erikawortmarrett. Felt very fortunate in the moment…which was good because it took a few days to be able to walk normally again. I think it’s safe to say I can now appreciate the hype around this race 😊.

#tbt to the HEART AND COAL crew - I am eternally grateful to have experienced the crazy roller coaster of the Sinister 7 Relay with you all. From watching each + every member of my team crush their leg (with insane precision based on our predicted times!), to running under the stars on Leg 6, to finish line hugs, I will fondly remember this weekend in the Crowsnest Pass. Thank you for welcoming me into the fold 🫶🏼.

Bonus: sharing in the relay fun w/ @shawnlywood + so many other trail friends! Now I understand the hype 😉.

One of my favourite race photos ever to commemorate a fabulous weekend celebrating @shawnlywood’s birthday. We ran the Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon with @itsmeseanhamilton, @jamienicolewhite and nearly 25,000 others, soaking in some epic city views. We ate/drank all the good things, explored more corners of the city + even managed a bonus hang with @_heathere, who showed us a couple of her favourite spots in NYC. Absolutely adore visiting this vibrant, bustling place 🫶🏼

Gorge Waterfalls…the race that coulda shoulda woulda, but didn’t quite. Despite a confidence-building training block, injury + illness creeped up on me the week of the race. But…it didn’t stop me from soaking in all those lush forests, jaw-dropping waterfalls + volcanic rocks. The volunteers and aid stations were wonderful + I thoroughly enjoyed drinking pickle juice from a champagne flute (#lifesaver)! We had the best crew to share in all the fun + loved exploring more of Oregon, which to me is the most underrated (and friendly…and beautiful) state. With my ego firmly in check, it’s onto the next…
