Yes I am reusing this photoshoot ok photoshoots are hard.
I've had this account for exactly 2 years now (!!! Kinda scary tbh where does the time go?) However in all those years I have never done an intro post, so here you go!

Hopefully if insta starts lying to you and saying that I'm using their AI you'll know I'm not. (Ai is a vague term intentionally sold to discourage understanding but generative ai like chatgpt etc to do creative work is harmful to people and the environment)

Let me know what you're most surprised by about me or if there's anything else you want to know! Here's to another 2 years 🥂

Thank you to RB media, @titanbooks, and @tantoraudio for the free audio copies of these books.

Murder at the End of the World and All We Have Left are both apocalyptic fiction exploring who family is and what will you do when there's no social contract holding you in. I would recommend both of these books! For further thoughts you can find my complete reviews on Goodreads! by @knotsnpurls

I cannot get over the reliquary sweater by @aggie_knits! It's the perfect Gothic sweater with the repeating cathedral motif and it's just so well designed! I've been trying to get better pictures of it but it's been hot and I've been sick and here you go!

I knit this with gooey and dread non super wash from @sincerefiberco but I think this sweater would work great with any variegated yarn and a neutral or coordinating solid. And you only need one or two skeins of variegated making a great project for those skeins you don't know what to do with!

Thank you Devin for letting me test this pattern!! by @knotsnpurls

I saw @thank.thegods.for.smut do this and knew I wanted to do a version! These are all books that have a 3.6 or lower average rating on @the.storygraph. I find looking at average ratings interesting and rarely do on purpose because of the noted lower reviews for books by BIPOC and/or queer authors.

Anyways read what you like, post what you like, and as long as you're not being horrible IDC. Also I think everyone should read How to Sleep at Night by @knotsnpurls

Q: If you could live in an alternate world, what would it be like?

4.5 Stars ⭐️

“No one tells you it’s all about to change, to be taken away. There’s no proximity alert, no indication that you’re standing on the precipice. And maybe that’s what makes tragedy so tragic. Not just what happens, but how it happens: a sucker punch that comes at you out of nowhere, when you’re least expecting it.”

Format: Libby
Favourite Character:

This would be good for someone who likes
🧪 Twisty Plots
🧪 Sense of Doom
🧪 Family-Man
🧪 Alternate Worlds

Review:

🧪 When Jason wakes up in another world where he doesn’t have a wife and kids, and he is a genius, he struggles to find his place. Everyone is expecting something from him and all he wants is his family. So he tries to travel back to his world, only this comes with a lot of complications.

🧪 The plot was really good in this book. It was suspenseful, that sort of damning suspense where you feel like the main character is stuck and you’re not really sure how they’re going to get out. I also found it really easy to follow for the most part, until the others came about. I love a good alternate universe book, and I think this was written really well with a unique twist that isn’t normally in these books.

🧪 I liked Jason. He loved his wife (we love that) and I think there is something poetic with the fact that he had everything in this alternate universe but he was only thinking about his wife and kid. He was grounded despite him being a genius, which helped him a lot when he was finding his family.

🧪 I loved seeing the alternate worlds that were explored in this book, I think they were really cool.

Highly recommend!

Thank you to @netgalley @harperaudio and @ruadanbooks for the e-ALCs of these books.

I've been catching up on ARCs old and new and read these two back to back. While on the surface they're nothing a like, I thought they ended up having some similarities.
Which one are you picking up? Darling rereleased yesterday, just in time for spooky season!

One week til Winterveil! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the ARC.

Ava Reid is a genius. Winterveil is her most ambitious novel yet, and she pulled it off.

Winterveil is split into three parts, who are we and what are we doing, who are you and what are you doing, and finally, how do we stop this. Set in a world where the Cold War never ended, four teenage criminals are sent to a secret school, trained in weapons or strategy. When the CIA visits, the four of them, some of the school's top students, are sent off on a mission. But can they trust each other? Can they trust their handler? Can they trust?

The situation they find themselves in gets more and more real as the book progresses. The technology in this world is advanced, and not fully understood by the protagonists or most people it seems. The world runs on secrecy. But despite everything, these four find a way to trust each other and cling to their morals. Even the good guys can be bad.

I desperately need the sequel. Winterveil ends on a cliffhanger, the mission never completed nor failed, the protagonists neither safe nor dead. The world has not been saved or damned. I think that's a good metaphor for current politics as well - we are far gone, but not off the cliff yet. The world, both ours and theirs, is full of secrets and uncertainty and dictators parading tyranny as freedom. I greatly admire all of the protagonists and how they try to do what's right even when it goes against their orders, even when it goes against who they've been taught is the good guy. I look forward to seeing how the duology ends.

I gave Winterveil 5 stars. Some people might wish for it to go into the evils of capitalism more or think the protagonists are too young, but it is a YA book. It fits the YA age range. There are plenty of adult dystopians with adult protagonists and nonfiction about the evils of capitialism.

Trigger Warnings; Sexual Assault, Consensual sex off page/implied, Consensual sex brief description, death, guns, blood, past trauma, death of parents, abandonment, discussion of assassination, mentions of attempted suicide, infidelity, nonsexual coercion

Dolly Parton's legacy is vast and amazing. She was a great champion for many causes, including Workers' Rights. So in honor of Labor Day and her legacy, I made a list of free ways to continue her legacy. Of course you can also donate to the Imagination Library, but these are additional ideas to remember Dolly and continue fighting for a better world <3

It's imperative that we remember that Dolly came from poverty in Eastern Tennessee, part of Appalachia. As a leftist from rural America, I have heard many coastal leftist talk sh*t about Appalachia, the South, and rural America as full of racist uneducated rednecks, which shows how little they know. When you think of Dolly, think not only of her, but of her community. So vote for people that value Appalachia and want to improve it. Listen to Appalachian voices. And remember, your life and home is not more valuable than anyone else's. by @knotsnpurls
