Drifter.

I lived a past life as a professional fly fisherman, traveling the world with a fly rod in one hand and a camera in the other. For years those two pursuits ran parallel. This photograph is where they finally cross.

I plan many of my images carefully. This was not one of them. We were working through another set beneath the Tetons when the moment presented itself. The horse was calm, steady, and so well broke that the idea felt honest. Ride him into the water. Cast from horseback. Don’t force it. Let the scene decide if it wants to exist.

Casting from horseback isn’t new, and it won’t disappear with this image. What stayed with me was the horse himself. As the line moved across the water, he became focused, tracking the fly with quiet anticipation, fully engaged in the moment. It felt less like directing a photograph and more like being allowed into one.

Drifter, the horse in this image, has since passed. Horses like him come along rarely, if at all. I was honored to work with him and to create what we did together. Without his temperament, trust, and patience, this photograph would not exist.

The title of this image is Drifter. I wanted to show respect to a horse that gave more than most ever would. Not many would have allowed this to happen.

Drifter, thanks for everything, bud.

Three years of planning and four days in Puerto San Carlos, Baja California led to this single moment. We ran nearly 100 miles offshore each day in pursuit of marlin, facing long hours, challenging conditions, and countless opportunities for the plan to fall apart.

While my name is attached to the photograph, it would not exist without the incredible team behind it. Their commitment, skill, and belief in the vision were the only reason we were able to create this image.

The photograph brings together two chapters of my life—my past as a fly fisherman and my present as an artist. Above the surface is calm. Below it is power, tension, and uncertainty.

More than a story about catching a fish, it’s a story about perseverance, teamwork, and staying committed long after comfort disappears.

Warrior's Crossing

The goal of this frame was to feel like time collapsing into one moment: a warrior riding through the Tetons, as if the old world still lives on in the new. The horse steps through the water with the mountains towering like stone guardians in the background. Out here, you don’t simply see history, you feel it. It’s in the air, in the peaks, and in the silence between hoofbeats.

“Warrior’s Crossing” is a reminder that the spirit of the land never dies; it keeps crossing from one generation to the next.

A Texas Sized Showdown. Behind the scenes.

An F1 car and a longhorn, face to face at the Circuit of the Americas. Old Texas meets new.

A shot like this doesn’t happen without a lot of hands. Getting a race car and a longhorn in the same frame took a full team working in sync to pull it off.

Here’s a look at what went into it. by @knox_kronenberg

Lonestar Horsepower

Lonestar Horsepower captures a cowboy racing a Formula 1 car at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas- the first purpose-built Formula 1 track in the United States. This image symbolizes the evolution of horsepower and the blending of Texas’s past, present, and future.

Horsepower has long been central to the American story. Our nation was built by men and women on horseback, and some of our greatest success stories come from the progression of horsepower into automobiles. With Formula 1 representing a global phenomenon, this image brings the spirit of Texas into conversation with the world, uniting tradition and innovation on an international stage.

COTA, a modern icon of speed and engineering, serves as the perfect backdrop to explore this intersection. The cowboy embodies Texas’s storied past, while the Formula 1 car propels us into the future. Together, they highlight Texas’s enduring competitive spirit and its place on the world stage. Lonestar Horsepower celebrates the journey of where we’ve been and where we’re headed, offering a powerful metaphor for Texas’s role in bridging tradition and progress.

A Texas Sized Showdown

We had three days to make this photograph happen. Three days to bring a longhorn and a race car face to face on the track at Circuit of the Americas. I’ve always believed that when the right opportunity presents itself, you find a way to make it happen. This photograph came from that belief and the people who helped bring it to life.

To me, this is a portrait of Texas. The longhorn represents the land, the grit, and the generations who built something here long before the rest of the world was paying attention. The race car represents how far we’ve come and the ambition to keep pushing what’s possible. Both belong here, and having them face each other puts that entire story in one frame.

I love seeing Texas grow and watching people come here with big ideas. That spirit is part of what makes this place great. But I believe we have a responsibility to carry our history forward with us. The world can move as fast as it wants. That longhorn still has a place on the track

The Hand You’re Dealt

I’m a firm believer in the American dream, and I wanted to create an image that expressed what I believe it takes to pursue it. Everyone born in this country is dealt a hand. Some are handed opportunity. Others are handed hardship before they’re old enough to understand it. Those starting points matter. But we each have a responsibility to decide what we’re going to do with the cards in our hands.

I chose characters from the American West because, to me, the people who risked everything to build a life on the frontier embody the entrepreneurial spirit that remains the backbone of this country. They stepped into uncertainty, put what they had on the line, and went to work without knowing how it would turn out. I believe in that willingness to bet on yourself—to take responsibility for a dream before there’s any proof it will work.

At the center of the table stands the buffalo, representing the courage to walk into the storm. Every dream worth pursuing will ask that of you. There will be problems you didn’t choose, setbacks you couldn’t predict, and days when you question everything. You have to be willing to face them head-on.

That’s the ethos behind The Hand You’re Dealt: you don’t get to choose where your story begins, but you do have a hand in what happens next. Play it with everything you’ve got. by @knox_kronenberg

Most of my photographs take months, sometimes years, to plan.

This wasn’t one of them.

We had been in Montana for a few days creating several other pieces when my good friend Steve mentioned he had an old bar inside a barn on his property. I’m always looking for what I call target-rich environments. Places where I can walk in and immediately start seeing photographs.

The second I stepped inside, I knew this was one of them.

We already had an incredible cast with us that day: Native Americans, a group of cowboys, and one massive buffalo. Looking around the room, I started imagining what an outlaw hideout might have looked like 150 years ago. The buffalo naturally became the leader, and everyone else fell into place around him.

The Outlaws isn’t meant to recreate history. It’s my interpretation of the untamed spirit that shaped the American West a place built by men and women willing to risk everything in pursuit of freedom, opportunity, and a better life.

My hope is that this photograph serves as a reminder of where we’ve come from and inspires a deeper gratitude for those whose courage and sacrifice helped build the country we enjoy today

Some shots take a day. This one took a year and a half.

I've always been drawn to golf courses. Not for the game itself, but for everything hiding underneath it. The land these courses sit on carried a history long before the first fairway was ever cut. I wanted to make an image about that. What the land used to be, what it is now, and the respect that connects the two.

That single idea turned into something bigger than one photograph. It became a series.

Play It As It Lies is about more than golf. It's about the hand you're dealt and what you choose to do with it. You don't always get the perfect setup. You move forward anyway. That mindset is everything to me and everyone I work with. We fail often, but we never stop taking the next step. by @knox_kronenberg

A lot of my work comes from wondering what the past would look like beside the present. With Iron Horse, I wanted to bring a little of the West onto the fairway and let the two feel at home together.

There’s humor in that meeting, but also something I keep returning to in my photographs, an appreciation for the life we get to enjoy and the people who came before us. I like when an image can hold both without having to explain too much.

This felt like the right place to begin Play It as It Lies. The title borrows a rule from golf, but it’s the idea behind it that interests me.
