HAGEN PATTERSON// NEW BOARD MEMBER & ALUM
Hagen’s connection to Fish for Change runs deep. He was a founding member of the original student program that would later become Fish for Change, joining in 2012 as a student and then a program trip leader in the organization’s earliest days — before Heather took the reins and built it into what it is today. That early, hands-on experience left a lasting impression on him and shaped his understanding of mentorship, purpose, and connection to the natural world. Now, as a member of the Board of Directors, he is honored to help guide the organization that played such a formative role in his own life, ensuring the next generation of students has access to the same transformative experience.
Hagen serves as Chief Operating Officer at an emergency management and crisis response firm, where he leads operations in some of the most complex, high-pressure environments in the world — from humanitarian crises, combat zones, andnatural disaster response. That work has continued to shaped his approach to leadership, resilience, and human connection under pressure.
Hagen holds a BA in Sustainable Development and Creative Writing from Columbia University, a combination that reflects both his practical commitment to building stronger systems across sectors and within communities, and his lifelong love of storytelling. He is currently working toward publishing his first book.
Hagen lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Olivia who he met through FFC, and their two dogs, Hutch (a North Texas ranch stray) and Chavo (a Mag Bay street dog).
