For the @aligator_watercolor_community challenge "Paint You" I used as a reference an old selfie photo I took of my horse and I .
He was a Teacher, a Friend, my Heart Horse who grounded me ❤️
I painted this on gesso board and kept scrubbing my face out and starting over ...finally it became streaky and grainy and couldn't paint on the surface very easily anymore...so I stopped there and didn't stress over it.

I did some "plein air " painting today with a local group here in Taos . It's pretty much my first foray into this genre of painting but who couldn't resist painting the beauties of this region . That's what brought a lot of artists here in the early 20th century. My subject here is a 100 + year old barn in San Cristobal. I'm not done yet... going to work on the sky a bit back in the studio :)

I usually don't paint plein air paintings , but today with the garden club I belong to we got the chance to paint in a lovely private garden so I gave it a shot . Tweaking a few things on it back in my studio. 😉 I actually enjoyed it and may be joining a local plein air group here soon...stay tuned :)

Sharing this piece from a few years back for @aligator_watercolor_community challenge #165 Between two worlds.
The land and the home of this wild horse is reflected in it's eye . Little does this horse know that soon he and his family will be chased down by loud helicopters . Whole families rounded up and ripped apart forever...wild horses that we should be protecting are slipping into the slaughter pipeline to be sent overseas to end up on someone's dinner plate. Every summer the relentless roundups start again . It is horrific ...these gentle and sentient beings deserve so much more than this fate
