Alright, poking around and trying out buttons on this long form video thing as well as adding music. Do people like music added? It’s kind of a toss up between awkward silence and two long non-offensive piano pieces.

Just a recording test on a few signet ring studies before work! Been checking out some ways to record on photoshop without giving people whiplash with the amount of zooming in and out I do, and without work messages/files popping up on my screen and instigating NDA lawsuits 💀

Checked out a few friend recommendations and I’m leaning toward creating a clone window of the file I’m recording and tossing it up on my third monitor and recording it with OBS. Seems to make recording much easier than it used to be, so I’m pretty happy with it so far!

(If you are an artist who wants to know how to create a clone window, you just open up your file in Photoshop and then go to “Window”>”Arrange”>”New Window For_____” and all your brush strokes should show up in both windows as you go.) by @kolarpemstudies

Studying fabric! Middle top-ish image with the hands is copied from Cliff Young’s “Drawing Drapery from Head to Toe,” but all the rest of the images are just me testing out his strategy using “rings” to flesh out “crushed cylinders” that I find really cool (I never really thought to break it down this particular way). The types of “rings” used would behave differently and have varying thicknesses for different types of fabric of course. by @kolarpemstudies

Studying the shapes of hats and jackets from various military uniforms, plus two film still color/comp studies.

I dunno how it took me like ten years to figure out the easiest way to ensure I memorized something (and could draw it again later with no reference) was to force myself to break it down into simple forms or draw it from different angles from imagination before I moved onto the next subject, but hey here we are.

Back to no comments mode for this account, I like the private sketchbook vibe. by @kolarpemstudies

I was looking back on my “cube cats” post and I realized I never posted evidence that I used them…WELL HERE IT IS, I DO INDEED USE THEM (to force myself to draw different angles)

*I did just draw the cube cats on note cards, I didn’t own a printer until veeeeery recently by @kolarpemstudies

Okay the longer I wait to update my studies page the larger my tower of studies gets so I’m just gonna sloppily speed run record a stack of papers and two sketchbooks! These are mostly guided/influenced by Scott Robertson’s “How to Draw: Drawing and Sketching Objects and Environments from Your Imagination” and Tom Fox’s “Drawing Form and Pose” as well as a smattering of other books.

I’m not lovingly displaying anything, and this is definitely not my entire stack of studies, but my goal for this page is really just to express a sample of how much behind-the-scenes work it might take to become an artist as a reference to those who are interested. by @kolarpemstudies
