Saturday October 3rd, 2026.

Another @newbeverly Annual Horror Show in the books. I don’t typically show up super early for screenings, with the exception of this one because our crew always rolls deep and it’s the only way to get seats together (and seats that don’t suck) for the twelve hours of surprise horror cinema lurking in the theater. So because I am an insane person, I was in line at 7:15 AM on the day, and surprisingly managed to not fall asleep for more than a few seconds here and there throughout the whole day.

Brian and Phil programmed a great line-up with some fun trailers (we finally got Ghoulies on the screen, even if it was just a trailer! A step in the right direction for Ghoulies Go To College to find its way into the line-up, some day!), and a fun little prize bag for everyone who made it through the entire marathon.

All films were secret until they hit the screen, with the curated pre-shows serving up clues in their trailers. Line-up was as follows

1. The Kindred
2. The Black Sleep
3. Bloodeaters
4. Highway To Hell
5. Necropolis
6. Vacancy

I’d heard of all but 2 and 3, and had seen zero of these, and in a touch of inspired genius the date October 3rd actually gets said out loud in The Black Sleep. It was between Kindred, Highway To Hell, and Vacancy for my favorite, and this might have been the best opener/closer year I can remember since I started going to these (although Nightmare Beach/Sorority Row in ‘22 was another perfect bookend year).

This is one of my favorite annual traditions and it’s always a treat to spend it with some of my absolute favorite people, sitting in the dark with horror movies and surviving on too many Cokes and hot dogs. Beyond Fest is the best time of the year. All the best movies are playing around L.A. today was a screening of Stephen King's It. The tv movie made so many of us scared to take a shower growing up. Except for me. I couldn't get enough of this movie. Haha. Also, I got to hang out with some good people.
