Komplot is happy to be back from its summer break and presents: 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ , a solo exhibition by @the_letters_pace_department

Rather than presenting a singular authorial position, at Komplot The LetterS̷ pace Department operates as guest and host at once, re-membering the works of close friends and kindred spirits in order to compose its first solo exhibition as one body of work.At the start of 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ lies the discovery of foundling tokens preserved in the archives of the CPAS/OCMW of Brussels. Left with infants placed in foundling drawers between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, cards, devotional prints and pieces of cloth were often divided in two. One half remained with the child, the other with the parent, each irregular edge preserving the possibility of a future reunion.

Subjectivity emerges in this space: not as a unified whole, but as something split, addressed and assembled through relations, voices and acts of enunciation. 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ takes this split and the bar as a working principle, to make visible what the division puts into relation. A word transforms into an image when barred and a line becomes a signature once it's crossed out by another.

Founded in 2022, The LetterS̷ pace Department (TLSD) is an artistic entity working across a variety of spaces, with language as a matter of failure and a particular interest in the interstices, lapses and ellipses. It develops minor models of resistance through parasitic strategies and by exploring the conditions and environments in which it operates. For 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶, these strategies take the form of an exhibition, a publication and a public programme.

I made a work for The LetterS̷ pace Department's 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ at Komplot in Brussels. The show is on view until October 24, 2026.

This is a solo in the form of a collective exhibition: "At Komplot The LetterS̷ pace Department operates as guest and host at once, re-membering the works of close friends and kindred spirits in order to compose its first solo exhibition as one body of work."

I'm very happy with this collaboration with The LetterS̷ pace Department. TLSD, along with Louis Garrido, has even developed a new typography for the exhibition, that they used for the shaping of the work.

m. A future voice—a belly-being—is growing, but still stored, stored still within the belly of the exhibition space, a
(future) mother is voicing being two, or one, between journal and dream.

n. Two triangular pillows support the comings and goings of Komplot’s neighbours, while the Malevichian white square is actually camouflaging the adjoining staircase, cramped between wall and ceiling.

o. A split is made after 188 pages of literary perversion. A spatial stretch accentuatess the division and Shifts two into three volumes from Lo-lita to Lo-li-ta. The book surfaces, loses its bodies, becomes image and is withheld by two entrance-doorsized plexiglas covers.

On 5 October, curators and CS alumni @camille_vm and @karelopteynde brought the postgraduate Curatorial Studies group to @komplot_brussels for a day of collective editing, arranging, questioning and making.

Personal notes, images, anecdotes and unresolved situations became material for a shared publication. Through writing, editing, sequencing, drawing and discussion, the group explored authorship, consent, privacy, disagreement and invisible labour.

The publication took shape through the relationships in the room: a collective space for testing ideas, making decisions and finding forms for different voices to coexist. by @komplot_brussels

On the 5th & 6th of September, Komplot was invited to Supercondominio8, organised by @tretigalaxie as part of the #radis public programme with @fondazionecrt and @fondazionecrc., bringing together independent art spaces from Italy and across Europe in Dogliani. 🇮🇹

This year’s theme was “Il Bene Comune” (The Common Good) exploring how independent art spaces can create places for sharing, exchange and collaboration, and how art can contribute to building communities and a sense of the commons.

On this occasion, @thibaud_leplat, curator at Komplot, presented the organisation, its missions and activities, the challenges of running an independent art space, and our upcoming 25th anniversary! 🎂💫

The weekend was filled with inspiring presentations, performances, conversations and encounters, including wonderful contributions from @rrobertocasti and the @scuoladisantarosaa, founded by @LuigiAntonioPresicce and @fra.lauretta

We were in very good company, alongside @gelateriasognidighiaccio, @karussell__, @muchomas.project, @panoramavenezia, @studio.concreto, @galeriefavu, @goswellroad, @kinderhookcaracas, @komplot_brussels, @sonnenstube.offspace.

A huge thank you to Ramona Ponzini and Matteo Mottin for this incredible weekend in Dogliani, for the invitation, the generous hospitality, the conversations and all the new encounters. ❤️

Jusqu’au 24 octobre, Komplot accueille sujet, première exposition personnelle de The LetterS̷ pace Department. Néanmoins, « personnelle », cette exposition ne l’est qu’en apparence. Seize noms l’accompagnent au générique, entre artistes invités, curateur et même évocation d’un psychanalyste. De quoi interroger, frontalement, ce que recouvre l’étiquette « solo show » dans le monde de l’art.

The LetterS̷ pace Department (TLSD) est une entité artistique fondée en 2022, qui mène depuis lors une recherche sur le langage, l’identité et la manière dont la figure de l’auteur ou l’autrice se déplace et se reconfigure. Avec sujet, c’est la première fois que cette entité se présente sous la forme d’une exposition individuelle dont les codes ont servi de point de départ à la réflexion.
