Clark Lane at Hanover Boulevard reopened after nearly two months of construction. The Missouri Department of Transportation closed the intersection on Aug. 24 for the construction of a new roundabout, and the intersection reopened Friday afternoon.

Jeff Pfannestiel, owner of Lighthouse Car Wash on Clark Lane, said the closure heavily affected his business.

"Our revenue and number of cars we have washed has fallen off a cliff since Clark Lane has been closed," Pfannenstiel said. "It's been kind of dirty and dusty the last two months, so we are excited for it to open."

Pfannestiel said the business typically saw around 300-400 vehicles a week before Clark Lane closed, but since construction began, it only has around 15-20 each week.

Abortion is back on ballots in Missouri again in November with Amendment 3. A "yes" vote is to ban most abortions again, while a "no" vote keeps current abortion access in place. This comes just two years after Missouri became the first state in the nation to lift an abortion ban by a vote of the people.

There are some exceptions that distinguish Amendment 3 in 2026 from Missouri's last abortion ban, but some argue those exceptions aren't enough.

Veterans United Home Loans says it will bring back its free drive-thru holiday lights display this winter, backtracking on its decision last year to discontinue the display.

The Columbia-based mortgage lender said 2025 would be the final year for its Bright Lights/Holiday Nights drive-thru holiday lights show because of nearby business developments and increased traffic.

In a Wednesday news release, Veterans United said it decided to bring back the display "after working through the logistical considerations that prompted that decision."

Amendment 6, which focuses on citizen initiative protection, restrictions on overturning voter-approved measures and fair ballot summaries, would change the Missouri Constitution if approved in November.

Supporters argue it is a direct democracy safeguard, while opponents argue that it could make it almost impossible for legislators to change problems with voter-approved measures.

Boone County voters will have the option to fund a new jail on the November ballot.

Proposition L, which would fund a new 570-bed county jail, would make the sales tax 3/8 cents; that tax would be levied for 15 years. The current tax is 2/8 cents.

However, some groups in Columbia believe there should be a conversation about the new jail and the incarceration system.
