Save this for when you need permission to put yourself first.

@davidporter_official said, “Do it!” A last-minute flight to reclaim my birthday joy. 🎂

You gave me the nudge for my 55th birthday. After ten years as a full-time caregiver, I got so good at knowing what everybody else needed that I stopped knowing what I needed.

So I took off. ✈️

And Lucy decided she was coming too. The last shot in this video will make you melt. Just ask Lucy. 😂

What’s something you’re FINALLY letting go? Tell me below.

And if you know somebody who has spent years taking care of everybody else, send this to them.

FYI, haven’t seen actor @erikpalladino since Mrs. Kenny’s acting class. He likely doesn’t know he impacted my life. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Follow along. Part 2: Manhattan with an unexpected guest.

A Different World helped send me to an HBCU. So this moment with @iamjasmineguy meant more to me than she probably knew. 💛

Who’s your favorite character on A Different World, the old show or the new one? 👇🏽

What happened is… when Jasmine came to Memphis for @memphishabitat Women Build, I had the chance to interview her for @liveat9.tv.

And she was everything I hoped she would be.

Funny. Warm. Kind. Hilarious. Joyful. She laughed easily, loved on everybody in the room and just showed up fully.

But here’s the part I don’t think I ever told her:
Watching A Different World helped me see an HBCU as a place where I could belong.
Hillman wasn’t real. But what it represented absolutely was.

I went on to choose @howard1867, and it remains one of the best decisions of my life.

Now, all these years later, A Different World is back. Whitley is back. And a whole new generation gets to discover a world that helped some of us imagine a different one for ourselves.

So looking back at this picture hits a little differently today.

Some people entertain you. Some people, without ever knowing your name, help change the direction of your life.

Thank you, @iamjasmineguy.💛

My sisters said I’m too old and I need to get over it. And they’re right! 😂

Apparently turning 55 means my sisters are still the people who will tell me the truth whether I asked for it or not. 💛

Put on mommy’s vintage clip-ons this week. For almost a year, I couldn’t sleep.

Caregiving changes your body. Even after she passed, I stayed on watch. This week…

Sleep came back. I feel her settled. If you’ve been through caregiving, you know about the long nights. You are not alone in it… taken in Memphis, Tennessee by @kontji

I love Memphis so much. 💙

The '64 Coupe DeVille is the classic full-size American luxury car, known for its elegant lines, prominent fins and chrome accents, and stacked headlights as a @cadillac hallmark.

I’m sure no one is allowed to sit on his white seats.

Such a Memphis moment to hear @projectpat’s song from 2002 and catch it rolling past @memphispizzacafe. He’s performing this Saturday September 26th at the new @satellitemusichall!

Song producers: @DJPaulKOM and @juicyj of @three6mafia. They’re playing at @orpheummemphis in February. First and second nights sold out, they added a third show!

He walked away from professional baseball, and his own teammates told him he should.

What they heard that changed the direction of @todddulaney1’s life forever.

Plus, he has a special invitation for his Memphis fans @divinelifememphis.

She left Memphis with a dream, graduated college with a 4.0 and built a career covering the biggest stages in sports. Now, @thejanerikaowens is coming home with a bigger mission.

A portrait of me arrived in the mail at work today from a viewer. Don’t know who painted it. I asked my coworkers one question: what do you think? taken in WREG Live at 9 by @kontji
