My closest friend, underground moviemaker Scooter McCrae, is being celebrated this Sunday at the GAP Theatre with a program of all of his work appropriately titled ‘The Future is Cancelled’.

All of this work has previously played festivals throughout the entire world and programmed alongside such noteworthy filmmakers as David Cronenberg, Michael Mann and Abel Ferrara, but tomorrow feels extra special.

The “films” of this maverick moviemaker aren’t for everyone, but more so for a select brave segment of an audience, those that seek their entertainment in the darkest corners of humanity and all it’s cracked up to be.

His low budget zombie masterpiece SHATTER DEAD is one of only 3 titles made during the shot-on-video heyday of the 1990s that rise above their homegrown limitations, leaving most other efforts far behind.

I was lucky to help Scooter bring a couple of his next projects to life, the lo-fi cyberpunk chamber piece SIXTEEN TONGUES, and a short scored by legendary Italian composer Fabio Frizzi entitled SAINT FRANKENSTEIN.

His latest, BLACK EYED SUSAN, is a near future nightmare waiting to happen any day now, and his first work to be shot on actual film.

I hope tomorrow’s celebration of this artist is just a small peak of more to come for my friend. And if you fancy yourself an adventurous moviegoer, then now’s your chance to put your bravery to the test. by @koochew
