Family photos, friend photos (also, water and building photos) - ranging from 06.11.25 to 07.13.25

Every frame (except for two, idk what happened there) of most recent developed roll, in consecutive order. Taken in Atlanta and Orange Beach, AL.

Life update: my team at work got laid off and my last day working was 06.06.25

It’s kind of funny viewing all of these photos from the lens of “unemployed guy”

But I think they decently capture little snapshots of my initial unemployment, I have done near daily yoga, gone on lots of runs, many visits to various bodies of water, quality time with family and friends, went to shows, wandered about town, and occasionally applied for jobs. It basically rocked, but on the other hand, a life time of social “hustle culture”conditioning still weighs overhead.

Ultimately, I decided to do somewhat of a sabbatical and currently, as of 07.24.25, I’m in Xela, Guatemala, staying with a Guatemalan family and taking Spanish lessons. And that has rocked so far as well, so yea more updates to come.

Salvaged photos - 05.18.25 - 05.26.25

I got a replacement film camera online after the dropped/decentered lens saga and made it halfway through a roll before it died too. After a few days and a slew of troubleshooting, it briefly came to life, suddenly advancing to the end of the roll and then dead again. Frustrated, I took it into a closet to unload the film.

Unfortunately, I didn’t completely close the door and when I opened the camera and removed the film, the full length of it was just dangling there and I was slow in rewinding it, further exposing the film to light and resulting in these overexposed washed out images after development.

Deterred but not defeated, I digitally edited the scans to get these black and white, dare I say near decent, images.

The edited b&w images are presented here with the original scans. Perhaps offering a found-photo archival nature to them. Or perhaps evoking a sort of Deliverance calamity (which, side note, was filmed in Rabun County, GA where these photos were taken).

Fotos de la Ciudad de México - 04.16.25 - 04.21.25

Camera notes: I dropped my camera a few days before the trip, resulting in an apparent de-centered lens and photos with a gradual loss in clarity from right to left. The developed photos on the same roll from before and after the drop confirmed it as the culprit.

I was initially disappointed, and many of the photos did not come out how I expected, but I do think the unintended right to left softening added a layer of character to the selected photos.

Film notes: I started the trip with a mostly finished roll of Flic Film Cine-Color 500T and hand checked my camera through TSA/Mexico customs but only the last two of the selected photos are from that roll, the bulk of the photos are from rolls of Portra 400 acquired in CDMX, the background images (aerial and on the ground shots of the Teotihuacan pyramids and surrounding area) were largely shot on the “risky roll” which did go through an airport CT scanner/xray resulting in some interesting artifacts on those images.

All images developed and scanned at Foto Latino in Roma Norte, CDMX.

- walking the lively and lush streets, parks, and mercados of Roma, Chapultepec, Centro, and Coyoacán
- voyage on the pre-Hispanic Xochimilco canals,
- plus muchos cafés, tacos, y un poco karaoke,
- and finally, traveling with this group of great folks… shoutout to @natreynaldo , @crust_kingsbury , and @batsthemusical for being the nexus for bringing this group together.

EAV in snow on film - 01.10.25

35mm Portra 400, developed and scanned by @twentysevenframes

Southern snow days seem like old hat after weeks of snow storms throughout the south, but in the early morning of January 10, 2025, as fat snow flakes dumped on East Atlanta Village, it felt special to me.

Meandering through my neighborhood that morning and afternoon, I felt washed in a refreshing slowness and communal cheer.

After years on a dslr and recent bouts on a disposable, and on the recommendation of trusted advisor @conner_perry, I stopped by @atlworldwidegallery and picked up a canon sure shot 35mm point-and-shoot film camera and a roll of Fuji 400. The resulting shots offer vignettes of Atlanta taken at various gatherings spanning 10.20.24 thru 11.02.24 , developed at @bellowsfilmlab

In order of appearance,

A hillside hangout, a young blue monster, a gang of Dollys, and a family portrait, taken on the margins of the @little5pointsofficial Halloween festival and parade - 10.20.24

Flea Circus (@flz_recordings) performing at the Unholy Halloween event at @thesupermarket.atl (surrounded by ambient Unholy scenes and the @cruxcollectiveatl pit of sins performance) - 10.31.24

Back at Little 5 Points Halloween fest, mother’s milk (@cranefortune) plays a sidewalk show post parade in front of @factors_collection - 10.20.24

Later that evening in the Little 5 culdesac, we see a @wieucallc full of Rayguns closing out Little 5’s Halloween festival with Wieuca Will atop multiple classes of vehicle - 10.20.24

Desert rock and roll photos

Originally gaining prominence in the wedding band circuit of their hometown Agadez, Niger, Etran de L’Air have been delivering high energy diy working class Saharan desert rock to the people of Agadez for nearly 30 years.

Their first album, No. 1, recorded and released by @sahelsounds in 2018, was live recorded on a cellphone at the band’s family compound in Agadez, the session turned impromptu performance was attended by the entire neighborhood and the energy of the crowd is audibly captured in the recording.

Their second album, Agadez, was again recorded at home with a portable studio in 2022. Both albums earned the band widespread critical acclaim and international tours.

Their third album, 100% Sahara Guitar, released September 13, 2024, saw the band leaving home and laying down tracks in “proper” studios in Los Angeles and Portland. The album delivers exactly what the title suggests.

It was an immense privilege to see them live and one of the best shows I’ve been to this past year.

Christopher Kirkley’s Sahel Sounds label is also a noteworthy project. Sahel Sounds is dedicated to amplifying the music and stories of West Africa’s Sahel region specializing in field recordings, experimental collaborations, and documenting the musical landscapes of the Sahara. I highly recommend checking out the Music from Saharan Cellphones compilations which notably feature Mdou Moctar and is cited as a contributing factor to his global rise. taken in Aisle 5 by @kooldbh
