To the 26.2 miles of my first marathon, I walked you down like I’ve done every other obstacle in my life. Whether it was weighing 331 pounds in 2018 or having a grand mal seizure 4 weeks ago, I will never allow my circumstance to define my condition.

Abba Father, I thank you for this warrior spirit. Eat what I kill and I will always finish the hunt. I’m not tired, boss, I’m hungry. LET ME COOK🥡🥢

I learned the character of a God-fearing woman is not revealed in the beauty of daylight, when the sun is shining with favor. It is forged in the grit of the night—when the enemy has bloodied her brow, yet her head remains unbowed.

After defending my dissertation & graduating last year, I postponed grad pictures for a myriad of reasons: postpartum body shame, betrayal, rejection. Life started piling.

Then, three months ago, I miscarried my second child. Life-shattering. I thought maybe grief, betrayal, the enemy, and everyone who counted me out had finally won.

But my tribe reminded me: even in drought seasons, we hold the line. King Saul didn’t kill Goliath, David (a little shepherd boy) did. My life is not perfect, in many ways it’s broken. But, that’s the testimony of my 2nd doctorate, “we ain’t picture perfect but we worth the picture STILL.”

The blood of our ancestors was forcibly used to fuel a democratic machine that too often denied them its promises. That history is not just something we remember, it is something we must confront.

Until our federal, state, and local policies value Black life as much as they have historically extracted from it, we will continue to organize, advocate, and disrupt. Justice is nonnegotiable.
