In 2023, the Field Museum declined my request to 3D scan objects in their Mesoamerican collection for broader accessibility, citing digital data–ownership concerns. This Colima “double cup” is just one of thousands of artifacts held in a collection shaped by colonial and extractive methods. I’ve since begun 3D modeling some of these antiquities from scratch—studying them behind vitrines when possible, or, in cases like this one, working from a photograph since the original isn’t on view.

This work (alongside 8 others) is in the Alice C. Cole Grant Exhibition until Dec 12th @wellesleycollege , my undergrad alma mater! Thank you to the @wellesleyartdept for the amazing support and chance to come back to campus :) by @korinavh

SLOW DANCE — MCA CHICAGO @mcachicago

Slow Dance opens at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on Saturday, September 12

Curated by Jadine Collingwood @jadine.collingwood Pamela Alper Associate Curator, with Korina Hernandez @korinavh Curatorial Assistant, Slow Dance features six artists who use performance to reclaim forms of slowness that resist the contemporary demand to constantly perform, whether in the public sphere, on social media, or in the workplace. Featuring works by Brendan Fernandes, Gordon Hall, Geumhyung Jeong, Carolyn Lazard, Melanie McLain, and Cally Spooner, this multidisciplinary exhibition includes painting, sculpture, video, with in-gallery performance activations throughout the run of the show.

Gordon Hall @gordon_hall_
Geumhyung Jeong @geumhyung_jeong
Carolyn Lazard @insicknessandstudy
Melanie McLain @melaniekmclain
Cally Spooner
Brendan Fernandes @brendanfernandes

In-gallery performances will take place throughout the opening day on Saturday September 12. Gordon Hall, Hands and Knees, will be performed between 11:15 and 12:15 and between 2:15 and 3:15. Subsequent performances of Hands and Knees will take place in February and March of 2027, with the sculptures on view throughout the run of the show.

Opening Wednesday in Maclean 400! “Re:Generate” invites you to a dynamic exploration of the perpetual cycle of creation, reflection, and evolution. At the heart of this showcase lies the understanding that art, technology, and sound studies are not static disciplines but fields of endless dialogue and transformation. This exhibition not only commemorates the culmination of the artists’ academic endeavors at SAIC but also celebrates the inaugural joint showcase of the graduating class from the newly established AT/SP department. “Re:Generate” is an acknowledgment that in the act of regeneration, we find growth, new perspectives, and unforeseen possibilities. Within each work, the realm of repetition unfolds not just as a sequence of echoes but as a landscape of opportunity, where each recurrence sharpens and reshapes the creative horizon.

“Re:Generate” features work from the following 2023-2024 graduating students within the Art +Technology/Sound Practices department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago:

Elizabeth Flood, Eul Lee, Jung Soo Kim, Patrick Glennon, Steph Patsula, Xin Yang, Yuwen Huang, Yousif Alzayed, Yukyeom Kim, Yimei (Emair) Zhu.
