People probably thought we were a little crazy for sending our 9 year old daughter to a six-week sleepaway camp at a military academy in Indiana last year.

And maybe we were.

But this is Brinley’s second summer at Culver Woodcraft Camp, and she could not wait to go back.

Woodcraft is so much more than summer camp. It’s a place that challenges kids to become more independent, responsible, confident, and resilient while building leadership skills, character, and lifelong friendships. Campers learn to step outside their comfort zones, take care of themselves, contribute to their community, and discover what they’re capable of.

Last year, Brinley came home stronger, braver, and more confident than when she left. This year she arrived as a proud Silver C camper, excited to see old friends, make new memories, and continue growing.

We’ll miss her like crazy, but there is something special about watching your child run toward an experience that challenges them and helps them become the very best version of themselves.

It’s Bryce’s turn for Jr. Woodcraft at Culver. He was definitely a little more anxious than Brinley, but drop-off went as well as it possibly could have. Watching him walk into something that felt big and a little scary took a lot of courage, and I’m so proud of him for that.

He claimed a top bunk right away, which feels very Bryce. 😊

Now we wait four days and hope he’s off making friends, trying new things, and hopefully having the very best time.

Happy 10th birthday B!!!!

I am so proud of who you are and who you’re working to become. You have a way of taking life’s twists and turns in stride, adapting to challenges with a strength and resilience that amazes me. You’re brave, kind-hearted, and always willing to jump into new adventures—even when they feel a little scary.

You care deeply about the people around you, love fiercely, and make the world brighter just by being yourself.

You also leave a trail of socks, water bottles, half-finished projects, and random belongings everywhere you go. And you definitely have your sassy moments—the quick comebacks, the dramatic eye rolls, and the absolute confidence with which you explain why you’re right. It’s impressive, really. And if this is what 10 looks like, I’ll admit I’m just a little nervous to see what 13 has in store for us. 😜

Watching you grow into the incredible young lady you are becoming is one of the greatest joys of my life. I am so proud of the person you are today and even more excited to see the person you’re becoming. Keep being brave. Keep being kind. Keep working hard. And maybe—just maybe—pick up a few things along the way.
