Do we not deserve more than “we have nothing to add beyond yesterday’s statement”?

As we approach the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Holocaust Memorial Day - meet @kpers100 - the tireless ceo of @holocaustuk - which works in schools to educate the next generation and the next about what happened. Survivors, the few we are lucky to have left, with the Holocaust Educational Trust’s support, go into schools all over the country, meet young people and tell their incredibly difficult but important stories. The Trust also takes many people each year to Auschwitz to see for themselves- young people, teachers and journalists in particular.

As the Holocaust survivor and magnificent writer Elie Wiesel put it: “I believe firmly and profoundly that whoever listens to a witness becomes a witness.”

Last night we listened to an Auschwitz survivor, Susan Pollack, speak so powerfully and generously at a candle lighting at Downing Street.
