Houston welcomed me with open arms and I couldn’t have asked for a better reception at ELLIO Fine Art @ellio_fineart! I am so grateful to all the folks who turned out for the opening of White Linen Night, featuring seven of my paintings from 2024-25, alongside work by artists Audrey Tulimiero Welch @audreytulimierowelch and Shanti Conlan @shanticonlanart. Infinite thanks to Trish Matute, Harwood Taylor, and Brian Freeze at ELLIO for believing in and advocating for my work, and for all the legwork involved in creating such an immaculate and memorable show. I am thrilled about my representation and couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to have on my team.

Thank you Ken Eke @kenin3d @k3ncam for the beautiful photos💛 by @krbakerart

Happy to share some exhibition photos from my show Eight Seconds / Eight Weeks at Laguna Lab @lagunalab_ I really appreciate everyone who made the time to come see the work at the reception! If you missed the opening, the show runs until August 12th, and I’d be happy to meet with you for a private tour.

I have much appreciation for Jonas Goldstein @jonasgoldstein and Timo Ryan @timoteo_gigante for inviting me to be Laguna Lab’s first Artist-in-Residence, and for the opportunity to exhibit the work I made during the residency. A very special thank you to Timo for letting me borrow his three-piece suit (even if the pants didn’t exactly work out!😉) by @krbakerart

In the 11th hour at Laguna Lab @lagunalab_
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to see my show yesterday!!🥰 I feel enriched and enlivened from all the care and attention to the paintings, and to the folks who deeply considered the work and asked brilliant, challenging questions. Exhibiting paintings is scary and uncertain, vulnerable and exhilarating, and I deeply appreciate the people who have continued to encourage me through all the ebbs and flows of the creative process. Somehow I keep going.

Very very special thanks to the Laguna Lab team, and especially Timo @timoteo_gigante and Jonas @jonasgoldstein for extending the opportunity and all your hard work and assistance with helping to organize the show. Much love and many thanks!🤗 by @krbakerart

If you find yourself in the North Bay this weekend, I hope to see you at my Laguna Lab @lagunalab_ Artist-in-Residence exhibition, Eight Seconds / Eight Weeks. The opening reception is Sunday, July 12, from 3–5pm.

This little painting was the first work completed in the new series and is still my favorite one to date. There is a quality of aliveness that runs like electricity through this work, and it was created in a mad dash, much like the subject matter being depicted. The form in the work feels married to the method of making it.

Bull riding has captured my imagination for its wild insanity and for the parallels I see between the rider’s experience and the act of painting. The title of the exhibition draws a parallel between the eight-second ride of a bull rider and the duration of the eight-week residency program. The resulting paintings developed as a poetic comparison between bull riding and maintaining a painting practice. The uncertain and unpredictable nature of creating a painting demands instinct, risk-taking, and a willingness to surrender to forces that can’t be entirely controlled.

Running alongside this idea is the Zen Buddhist allegory of the Ten Bulls, a series of short poems and accompanying drawings depicting the stages of spiritual awakening and self-realization through the metaphor of taming a bull. This painting, in particular, reflects the fourth and fifth stages—“Catching” and “Taming” the Bull—where the struggle to understand and direct the mind mirrors the challenge of finding one’s way through the making of a painting.

See you this weekend! by @krbakerart

After eight weeks as the inaugural Artist-in-Residence at Laguna Lab @lagunalab_ , I’m excited to share Eight Seconds / Eight Weeks, an exhibition of paintings created entirely during the residency. Inspired by the landscapes and communities of Sonoma County, the work explores the American West as both lived experience and metaphor.

The title of the exhibition draws a parallel between the eight-second ride of a bull rider and the duration of the eight-week residency program. The resulting paintings developed as a poetic comparison between bull riding and maintaining a painting practice. The uncertain and unpredictable nature of creating a painting demands instinct, risk-taking, and perseverance in order to “ride the bull” without being bucked off.

Alongside completed paintings, the exhibition includes works in progress, offering a glimpse into the evolving process behind the finished works and inviting viewers to experience painting not only as a final resting image, but as an ongoing site of exploration and discovery.

I can’t wait to share all that comes of this exciting opportunity. Very grateful to @jonasgoldstein and @timoteo_gigante for the opportunity to more deeply connect with this dynamic and inspiring community.

So grateful for this nuanced interpretation of my work written by John Clements, “The Paradox of Evil (Il Paradosso del Male)”, published in Rivista Sottopelle, “The Step of Evil: Violence, Guilt, and Responsibility Beyond The Tale of Good and Bad” (Il Passo Del Male: Violenza, cola e responsabilità oltre la favola die buonib e cattivi). Written in Italian (swipe for Italian text), and translated into English, Spanish, and French. I’ve been wrestling with morality and I’m glad someone picked up what I’m putting down. Nothing is ever black or white. The protagonist of one story is the antagonist in another. Perhaps the farther away we can get from any dualistic worldview the better off we all will be. Just food for thought. The inquiry goes on. by @krbakerart

And here we are, several months later, with so much more to say and to show from Pieve. Jump back to watching La Grande Bellezza for the first time and not understanding the film, for all its meandering and gratuitous beauty. Jump forward to finding out just how true Sorrentino was in his depiction of Italy, from manically baby-dancing Mueve la colita (this actually happened), to the slowness required to truly appreciate La Dolce Vita.

Everything is heightened inside a real-life Sorrentino frame. The whole tale brought me closer to some more honest and articulate knowing of myself: the rhythms, the longings, the discontents within my practice that keep me digging. There is something clarifying about being far from home, something that focuses the lens. What remains is understanding that attention, awareness, and disciple are everything: how I spend my time, who I share it with, and what I choose to nurture. Attention is just a synonym for love. Painting is only one of the ways I know how to share my attention.

The Arrosica Residency application is finally out, and I highly recommend applying💕 John and Nicola are amazing humans and friends and I’m lucky to have been a part of their first year cohort.

Between several exhibitions, getting sick, a hot concussion and broken nose combination, and getting sick again, this is my first completed painting of this year🥊🤸🏼‍♀️

Out Beyond Ideas Of Wrongdoing and Rightdoing, 2026
Oil on panel
9.5 x 12 in.

I have some insanely good news and am quietly keeping my nose to the grindstone for now. I can’t wait to share the project that is finally taking shape after many, many years of dreaming💫 In a lot of ways I see this painting the representation of just that- looking out towards a hazy vision that is just beginning to find its form by @krbakerart
